Hot Rods Up close look at the controversial roadster at GNRS

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by seadog, Feb 4, 2024.

  1. Say what you want about the color choice, but this is a bitchin' car. I was on the fence at first look, but dang, this thing rocks.

It's a well built hot rod as far as I'm concerned. She own's the car so she can pick any color she wants.

It really is, didn’t pickup on it first till I took an in depth look at it...color may not be for everybody, but credit is due here.

I'm thinking that if that car was any color except hot pink guys would be raving how great it was. The build level is obviously there and it checks off in all the right boxes when you look past the color.
The worst photos of all AMBR contenders that I have seen for years are those that are shot with that AMBR background with the statue and trophy. Bad lighting, not a great angle or a combination of a lot of things but I don't think Even Tom Davison can pull off great shots of cars sitting in that spot.

That said, while the video shows that the car really pops when it is outside, the choice of paint is going to look old and tired in about five years unlike a lot of more Hamb Friendly colors.

Just another Deuce roadster. Small block, automatic, quick change.
Magenta doesn't do it for me. Very nicely done, but not unique or traditional.
    Just my observation

Hot Rods w/o hub caps are ok…but not on the the most beautiful roadster.

I am glad the video was posted. I have a more accepting opinion after seeing it.

One of the best interiors I’ve seen in a very long time.

  14. I really like the color on this car. The flame were more modern design Though. Had they been more vintage looking flames it would be possible that this car could be pre60's exterior-wise

I think people miss the fact that early AMBR entries were cool bright colors. Not just a black 32 roadster.

One think I noticed it seems like a lot dirt track bias-ply style tires going on everything.

there was one over the top roadster called Overkill not HAMB safe due the wheels but it was the only very different style roadster as it was more of Gasser with the wrong wheels. Which was more offensive.

As a whole pretty good I think; I'm sure somebody  would drive it. I don't like the steering; drag link, tie rod, damper mounting. Looks like the body got widened through the passenger area [not a bad thing] and the seat is really far back? Maybe a trend. Worst to me is the windshield angle.

  16. my question as well.

Maybe the color or its not traditional enough. Maybe jealous, I am, or am I envious?

  18. On another thread the “controversy” was:
    Color
    Wheels
    Owner not smiling
    No hubcaps
    Steering wheel placement
    And probably pink shoes

I’m far from knowledgeable about the GNRS, but I’m inclined to think there’s nothing stating cars should fall into a “traditional “ roadster as we know it here.
    Or am I incorrect?

Like someone says “I’d drive it, pink and all” all the stuff that makes it controversial could fairly easily be changed. I doubt most of these cars get driven much idk. My grand daughters would absolutely love it.

Or.......maybe they just got out of the wrong side of the bed to find someone had shit in their oatmeal.
Damn, I hate it when that happens!
You know what they say, "you just can't please everyone".
Some here didn't like the color on this one either.

  22. Out of all the contenders this year I think this is the most Traditional build . Wheels are pretty close , paint is really cool I like the “Sclames “ “ flalopse’s “??
I dunno they look like scalloped flames .

the pink ‘ain’t for me , but the rest is pretty cool .

I don't think it was built to win the "Most HAMB Friendly Roadster" trophy. Perhaps if there was such a trophy...

So I guess unless you build or have built a car that looks like all the others your not going to find much of a welcome here from a group of people who live in a small box. One thread everyone is talking about keeping the hobby alive , well it takes more than a bunch of old men well past their sell by date to do that. Here is a young person who has made a large investment of all the resources needed to put a car together and she gets thrown under the bus because she likes pink.

    Nope.

It’s a modern day version of 90s paint schemes and billet.

It’s no more traditional than LS engines and Mustang II suspensions.

That doesn’t diminish the craftsmanship evident. Just doesn’t float my boat. To each his own, though.

That was my thoughts and why I posed a question about the GNRS.

And even in shocking pink, if I could fit in it, I’d be like Anthony.

I'm not gonna knob-slob the car 1 way or another. I like what I see and they didn't paint it for me. Y or N, what if the colors were reversed, black with pink flames. I wouldn't hate it.

Honestly thought I'd see a comment about the Rodders Journal shirt.
