The way that I see it, is, it's her money and she spent it wisely. The craftsmanship is great and she was right there in the build
I don't care that it looks like a 1990's boat scheme. It's a "pretty" build and she deserves to be proud of it.
Barbie and Ken would be proud to ride in it.

  3. Actual color should play very little with judging.
Paint color and the paint finish are separate things.
Out of the examples you posted the pink and black is my favorite.
I sent pics of that to a friend of mine to consider for his 50 ford. Black car, pink laced top over black. Pink under the hood.
Color is too subjective and should have very little to do with judging the paint application.
I got hammered from some guys for a car I picked for best paint at a show. “It’s green”
I still do not understand that statement.

the truck was candy green with black trim. Would I paint mine like that, probably not but the guy that did the truck had the best paint application and detail that day.
One close contender had a slight mottled spot in the base, another contender had a sag that you had to look hard for but wasn’t properly removed and another had some texture in the base. (Clear was fine)
And the guy complaining the most had hand prints bubbling thru his clear. Go figure.

Every hot rod should be black or red, obviously.

The same complaining happened about the colour for JF Launier's AMBR contender last year. And the same guys who can't handle the tiniest bit of creativity and personal expression wonder why there's a thread about hot rodding dying on here every other week.

Living in this bubble that everything has to be traditional sounds more and more silly as time goes on.

Sorry Anthony, but I have to disagree with you on this point. I realize that color choice is subjective, but color choice does a lot not only to define a car but to compliment the components used to build the car. All components have a "color" as well, whether they are painted or not. By that I mean things like using stainless or nickel/copper plating instead of chrome or even actual paint. They all must work in harmony to create the proper effect . A bright color or a drab color, a glossy or a flat color, a metallic or a non-metallic............they are all important in defining what someone wants the finished car to personify.
Choosing the wrong color or even the wrong shade of a color can make or break the cars overall appeal...and its value.

Someone can judge the craftsmanship in a vehicle objectively because flaws are not opinions, but I think a judge should also give credit to the overall appeal of the finished vehicle........which is subjective.:)

Without doubt, if the car was black many here would be raving about it.

  7. Yep. I think the pink nailed the vibe
Complemented the cars overall style and owners vision
As perfect as black on a restored T

I really liked that her display included her custom hot rod stroller and hot rod pedal car. Kind of a timeline of where she came from.

The award isn't "America's Most Technically Perfect Roadster", though. The award is "America's Most Beautiful Roadster". Beauty is a subjective concept, and paint color certainly plays a role in ones' determination of beauty. Just like ones choice of flame design or any other surface finish on the vehicle.

  11. Sure.
    I liked it
    Some don’t
    Doesn’t fit here
    Wasn’t built to
I’m not a big tub fan but if the Brizio built one was the best overall build, I’d overlook my prejudice as judge

According to what the girl and her mother posted on Facebook, the car was the runner up for the AMBR.

The car won "Outstanding Engineering", "Outstanding Detail", "Outstanding Undercarriage", and "Achievement Award". Those are all specific to the AMBR competition.

Neat car... but I found the AMBR cars after looking at them all , this year entries uninspiring ... just wasn't any "WOW" look at that.. just my opinion

I’m not sure she was there. The lady in the video is one of the fabricators at Johnson’s Hot Rods. It’s my general complaint with a lot of these awards they seem to go to the owner not the builder.

Personally I think her car looks great and better than the others posted here. It has a stunning contrast in colors not only in the paint job but in the detailed parts as well. The others don't have much of that. The interior choices are a lot better too. Kudo's to her and the builders.

I'm fine with any color-except that stripey one last year or two. That one, to me looked to me likethere were to many left over cans of paint in the shop. But, of curse, not my car and what do I know, except what I like.

If there are any of you folks who don't think the color is traditional enough, I'm just gonna toss this pic of Larry Watson's custom Caddy Eldorado Brougham up here.... :p
You guys have a great day, I'll be on my way now. :)

That car is way off topic here, it's got BILLET aluminum valve covers and air cleaners, where's the traditional police at ???

That's true......but, 50's cool pink shades were coral, and pale pinks, not Cerise, which is a real 80's colour.

This Brizio built '32 is very much a 50's era pink style, and cool as f**k!
    IMG-20190815-WA0000.jpg

Her roadster is a strange mix of traditional era build in many ways, but with a 80's/90's era paint job....hell, maybe she'll start a new trend?
Colour is subjective anyway, I mean I can't stand black hot rods, they are everywhere, as it seems the world and his dog has a black hot rod. People have been critical of my colour choice, so I'm not going to really slag it off, but I would agree the girl needs to smile, she's just had her dream hot rod built at age 22, she should have a grin on her face as wide as the Golden Gate Bridge...!!

    Viva La difference!
    Just as with people...
    Celebrate our differences.
    Celebrate our samenesses.

Some think that their opinions mean more than they really do. LOL seems to be a lot of that in the car hobby.
