That's too damn cool...interesting that it's like a barn find really...glad it survived...maybe a resto is in the distant future...it deserves it...

There’s word going around about Uncertain T being an AMBR winner… I’ve never heard that before and it sounds wrong to me. Can anyone confirm if that’s right or wrong?

I think you missed my point in that Junior was so well know as a painter that in the AUTO WORLD he would be recognized just by that name. The other Junior, well know by many but not necessarily this crowd, would be Dale, Jr. (Earnhardt if you are still at a loss. NASCAR? :) )

No, for one thing the car is not a roadster, so it is ineligible. AMBR stands for America’s most beautiful roadster

I assuming that you're not meaning that the guy in the forgroud of this picture is Junior.

I grew up in Rural Iowa and it was hard to get to a big car show. That being said I am glad people want to take the time and money to save everyone of these old cars they can. I can hardly wait for the doc. or pics of it in a million pieces and then watch them put it back together. thanks for the memories.

Saw this post on Dave Shuten's Instagram.

I'm sure the whole thing needs a good going over after years of neglect.

Ya know I was scratching my head thinking the exact same thing! I tried telling myself maybe it's just the way the old red paint aged, that maybe it's the pigment in the original red faded but by golly ! My head still says that's rusted steel .... even the break looks like steel, not aluminum....

Gotta here the story behind this .....

How do you even break that channel just sitting there?

  20. car bounced around in the trailer heading to Detroit. If it was tied down by the axles, the suspension can still work up and down. A nasty stretch of road probably put the car in a odd bind that then broke the frame as it was the weakest point.

There are other photos on Shuten's post. From one of those photos, it looks like the fracture happened at a weld joint between two sections of the frame that are joined at an angle.

I see weld failures in joints similar to that all the time at work. It is likely that this was a poor weld that may have already been cracking and failed under the transport loads. As was said, the car was in an enclosed trailer heading to Autorama.

They make an inflatable bag for just this purpose. If you are trailering long haul, you slide them under the frame and inflate them, it prevents the car bouncing about.

More to the point, I would like to know where the aluminum frame is. And you gotta love a show car that can't even trailer form one event to another, no less drive. Silliness.

That can happen with whatever kind of material you weld. Point is, it's not Aluminum, like all the magazine's touted B.I.T.D.

W/o being rude, nor "catty", I'd like to hope that as Dave & crew go thru the restoration & documentation of the UT, they show close-ups of the various (every)things & denote what is the same, & different, from the "Claimed History". Would be both interesting, & instructive. Cull out all the BS - & there *is* a lot. Also be absolutely *great* for model builders. Don't know iffen there's a large enough paint chip(s) to get a good color pic or match, but that'd also be nice to know, incl the never-seen 1st paint job(since afaik, it's claimed to have never been stripped. True?). Might spark some interest in that end too, although not for "collector", just actual builders. I could see someone pulling a mold off of a kit, & doing a nice "parts-kit/builders'-aid"... :D .
Hopefully, Dave will do a very detailed build. Hey, I'd watch n read it. :) .
    TIA.
    Marcus...

We were lied to! Aluminum corrodes not rusts! I want my money back! Actually if you think about it aluminum for a frame doesn’t make sense. At least in 1963-65 timeframe for a home build. Even if it was a trailer Queen.

Maybe the aluminum for the frame was a frame for the fiberglass body? Don't know.

A "wonder weld", typical of the era. Zero preparation, bead laid on top and ground away so it looks neat, and everyone's left wondering how, or indeed if, it was welded!!!! Have seen boxes chassis like that with a half car length split!

That wasn’t the media lying. I recently read Steve Scott’s account of where he bought the aluminum tubing, how he learned to weld it, etc.

Maybe part of the frame is aluminum, and part of it is steel?! I don’t know.
