We have a running joke around here that if you were to plumb the major plumbing supply store in town you would have to go to Ace hardware to get parts to complete the job. :D

  3. No home repair job complete without at least two trips to town!

Refreshing the license plates form my sons 40 Chevrolet. They were blue with yellow letter/numbers. He took them off his truck and had them reassigned to his coupe. They are going to be black with yellow. The N needs some body work. The old coating was tough. IMG_6363.jpeg IMG_6364.jpeg

Picking up from the stripper tomorrow! Black Rustoleum for a base worked pretty good.

Decided to mill off the heat spacer under the carb to get the carb to sit level and hopefully eliminate the hot start problem I have after the car sits for 30 minutes. IMG_1983.jpeg IMG_1984.jpeg

  6. Just cleaned up the cyls in my 283.
Fresh bore that I let humidity flash
Cleaned with white vinegar and a soft nylon brush followed by PB blaster.
    Lesson learned.
This engine came with a new151 cam and lifters. I’m not interested in high revs or idle bragging rights. So probably use a simple MTC-1
The new lifters are of unknown origin. The cam and lifters was installed but never ran. Built long enough ago the white lithium they assembled it with turned to glue.
So, chance the existing lifters or chance new.
I read through several lifter threads. I used Johnson’s in my 500. My supplier says their Elgin lifters are still doing good. Used those in the 350 we build around 2017. No issues

  7. I've used Elgin a lot! Only lifter failure I've ever had was this 350, and yeah it was Elgin, but I'm blaming it on the camshaft ;) I'm the type of guy to roll the dice, it's just a damn engine, run the old lifters, we're body men, soak em in lacquer thinner, they'll clean up :D

  8. Was thinking about that.
A good bath and the air blower.
if I use the old new ones and they fail then I should have bought new new ones
If new new ones fail I should have used the old new ones

  9. You said it lol

Brake cleaner and lacquer thinner. That'll do it

I would certainly run the old ones seeing as how they were never run.

    gonna do a plastic-gauge check.
If it’s good we’ll do a valve lap, seal it up and go.
Sometimes it’s fun to see how long stuff can last

    Anthony,

As soon as I read 292 I immediately thought of Bob Klessig. I bet he drove that green Chevy convertible a half a million miles with a 292.

  20. Looked inside the oil pump.
    Looks like an oil pump
We’ll button it up and fire it up in the floor.
Gotta weld up the exhaust manifold.

About a year or so ago in an effort to try to troubleshoot another problem on my Corvette I removed the Man A Fre and put an L79 manifold and a 600 Edelbrock carb. as it turns out the Man aA Fre was not the problem but I procrastinated on putting it back on. The linkage for the 4 carbs was orig Man A Fre parts and admittedly some of the rod ends were worn out or loose and sloppy. The whole mess was kinda crappy looking. I bought a pile of RH and LH 1/4" rod ends and some 1/4" stainless rod and made new linkage for it. Also grabbed 4 kits and went thru the carbs just for good measure.
I never told anyone I took the 4 carb setup off and while the 4 barrel setup ran real good it was not nearly as fast as it was with the Man A Fre. Here is a pic of the 4 bll manifold on the car

Here is the Man A Fre with its new linkage (smooth as a gravy sandwich now) and rebuilt carbs

So I got off my ass and put the Man A Fre back on, just fired it up and all is now well with the world

  25. We removed the Electronic fuel injection and related crap from the 1934 Ford that I mentioned earlier. It’s amazing how much better it looks with a nice Holley 3310 on top. Much cleaner. There was even enough room to install a stock, mechanical fuel pump and shitcan the electric pump. I taught my nephew how to bend and route steel fuel lines from the tank to the fuel pump. Much cleaner with one, simple fuel line. I’m guessing this car was built in the 1990’s because it has billet shit all over it with an independent front suspension, rack and pinion steering and a single plastic front transverse leaf spring, and Corvette rear suspension. I’ve not been around street rods, mostly GM cars, Ford and Chevy pickups. Just for my own knowledge, is this a Mustang 2 set up or something else? Please understand, I’m not trying to talk about O/T stuff, just trying to identify this so I know what to avoid.

Spent the day bolting together the AD chassis. The owner decided he wanted it powder coated and of coarse the shop that did it didn't cover all the holes.... Man I hate filing and reaming out powder coat:mad:
