  8. It appears to be an early version of a land yacht. Hehe.

    Hello,

The complete landmark photo reveals the old Carnation Milk Corporate Headquarters in Los Angeles’s Miracle Mile area in the Western part of the downtown. As we were younger, we tagged along with our parents to go shopping and dining out when it was not crowded. A short stop to the MacArthur Lake for motor boating was also in the cards, if our dad took us along.

The area is called the “Miracle Mile.” We joked that it was a “miracle” more folks were not broke after a day’s shopping in all of the big name department stores along this road. They were just not the branches of the named stores, but the home court or main center for the brands. So, May Company was nice elsewhere, but the big May Company Store was pretty awesome. The same thing with Bullock’s and the flagship store, Bullock’s Wilshire.

As much as So Cal is/was a great place to drive around, having gas stations on almost every two blocks and sometimes 3 to 4 on an intersection made never running out of gas a random thing. Even the beach communities had 4 gas stations on the most important intersections to allow visitors and local families go to the beach and fill up prior to going back home, again.

For us young kids, it was a new and exciting place to visit. (the late 40s through the late 60s) Something new was always popping up back then. Now, it is crowded, traffic is thick at all hours and for us, not an everyday thing or even tempted to go once in a month. The spread out communities all have their own shopping centers and access to local beaches for relaxations and fun. No need to fight the congestion to go shopping or visiting… YRMV
