I owned a 55 special a bunch of years ago . Great driving car , developed a decent leak from the trans and the motor had 1 dead cylinder . I tossed around the idea of doing a suspension and drive train swap , also thought about tackling the rebuild of all of it myself and either option was too big to accomplish in my 2 car garage. also up here 50’s Buicks are worth a ton in stock restored form , not so much once modified . So I sold it. Ive always loved Buicks , I think they are much better styled cl***ier and more “ high end “ then caddilac of the same years . I compare them to Lincoln’s . “ I got money and power “ but I’m smart enough to not be takki about it. I dunno , just how I see it , Buick seems to have always been a 1/2 step behind caddilac , where I think it was a step above . Also looking at the rivieras etc always an innovator in style , power and cl*** . Even into the 70’s and 80’s always screaming ( quietly ) a subdued cl*** and style , kinda fell to the wayside in the 90’s and forward . But even the new “ appliances” that Buick is coming out with have that same subdued style and cl*** of yesteryear .
I have a coworker with a 1908 Buick that he and his father restored. It now sits in GM Factory 1 in Flint, MI.
I have three - I hope the Skylark isn't too new as a '65. The Riviera's a '63 and the Special is a '53, the last of the straight eights. Although I don't have any real brand allegiance, Buick is probably my favorite. I also have two Fords, a Chevy, a Pontiac, and a Dodge, so if it has wheels, I like it.
Y You got that absolutely correct! I have two ‘47s, Sedanette and Convertible waiting their turn. Although I’m a Ford guy Buick’s are my second choice. Scott on ColdWarMotors (Youtube) is doing a ‘59. But REALLY good one are the McCoughlins...
