Six Ball is right , it takes some work to get the Chevy's low in front. Mine was dropped by Sid and is 6" from spring pad to center of spindle, plus a couple of other tricks. Still the scrub clearance is safe... Roadster front 1 (2).jpg

Local to me is a guy selling 1931 Chevy coupe front suspension. I wonder if it’ll fit my 34.

  3. I am not sure if the 31 axle is the same as my 33 but using the 37 [?] and later axles are easier to put the later , 51-54 chevy brakes and spindles. the king pin diameter on the early axles is smaller than the 37-up so a custom king pin bushing is needed.

Normally that would be too much for me but it looks good there! It is hard because these axles already have about a 3" drop. Sid does a great job.

I think the '31 front end gould be made to work. Here is Sid's Chevy axle information.

You know I like your roadster and how you have solved the special problems. I hope mine comes out somewhere near as nice. The big headlights are borderline too but I have a set of those I want to use if my 4 cylinder can push them through the air. (air brakes) Every thing isn't right for every car but a bold attitude can open things up and make over the top be just right. :D

.Thanks Tom, the more I look at the headlights the less I like them. Probably 32 Chevys would work better. I had a 4 cylinder in my 27 Chevy coupe and you had to lean forward to help it get over the hills....

I like the lights. How are they mounted? My radiator shell is smaller and they may look goofy on mine. I have a smaller set. The only thing uglier would be bug eyes in my opinion. My four should be making an honest 150-175 hp. If it doesn't I have a never been apart 283 that came out of my granddads '67 pickup. It will bolt right in. Lots of other candidates setting around too.

  10. Lately I really want an early GM car, am I nuts? Always been interested in an early Pontiac/Olds but those seem to be impossible to get. Chevy's seem much more likely to be found in driveable shape. Seen this 32 3 window Chevy (pic below) at 14.5K asking price. Seems like a lot of car for the coin vs a ford of same vintage. This is Model A money. How do these drive stock vs a stock Model A?

I like it, does it have three and everything? How’s the interior?

  12. Only have two more pics of it. If it were not 1500 miles from me I'd go take it for a test drive. I have zero experience with a car this old. Had my '47 chev for 27 years and just looking for something with flowing fenders.

  13. back in the eighties, I worked for a restoration shop. we finished two cabriolets, a 1931 chevy and a 1931 ford. both full ground up restorations. I was fortunate enough to drive both and did a "road test" comparison. the chevy was smoother, rode and steered better, shifted nicer. the Chevy was quieter inside and the seat was softer. everyone in the shop agreed.

  14. This one is a '33 and its local about an hour away. I'm not much of a sedan man at all and would most likely never buy one but I think I'm going to try and go see this one and take it for a spin. Description said it has glass fenders, runs and drives but needs interior. Knowing all the interior kit places are out of business that would be big expense and possible bargaining point. They are asking 13k for it. Probably not as nice as the 3 window above that is just a bit more money. Only two pics:

It is all in the song. :)
Those would have the 194 six, the original Cast Iron Wonder. By '31 it produced 25% more power than a Model A. A very smooth dependable engine. It began the Chevy Six legend. They weren't hot rodded a lot or at least didn't get a lot of attention. Very drivable cars. That coupe is nice.

Made a dolly for my 34 Chevy Master 5 window coupe. I can move the car frame or the body independently of each other. This should help me make better progress.

That thing has such nice lines! It is funny how our brains are programed to use Ford as the end all baseline for how a rod should look.

Re: 1934 Chevy Master 5 window coupe
    Question:
What in the world is this rectangular hole for in the lower cowl? It’s mirror image on the passenger side including the 1/4 round piece of bent metal, so it’s not bent that way from damage. Seems too small to be a drip channel of any sort. I’m perplexed.

    Thanks. That’s fascinating.
I have the original hood pieces, so I’ll check it out later. IMG_4746.jpeg

as said above for the hood, there should be a rod connects to the handle on the hood that releases it. Let me see if I can find a pic of my hood

I'm going to reverse my rumble lid and convert to a trunk lid by also using those type of hinges at the top. Was your decklid a rumble setup like mine? Also, when you have a chance, would you take a much-needed photo of the decklid latch on the bottom that locks it to the body? I've never seen one, also figuring that it may be very tough to find one (anyone know if this latch is reproduced?), but my search continues - thanks for any help! By the way, GREAT job on your trunk lid @snoop74!

honestly I don’t think mine was a rumble seat. Originally when I got the car it looked to be set up as a regular truck judging by the hinges I had in the box. I also don’t have a lock, not quite sure how I’m going to do my truck at this point. Maybe one of those VW “pop style” I don’t think I have enough space at the bottom for an actual handle. Thanks! Planished it out and got some epoxy on it

    That looks nice!
I know you will both solve your trunk latch issues. There are a lot of latches out there new & old. My '26 has a trunk latch mounted in the lid that closes on a plate in the bottom of the trunk floor. It could be replaced with one of the Bear Claw door latches.

six- are you using the factory handle ect? I didn’t actually think about using a bear claw that’s a good idea.

I bought a 28-34 ford I think it is latch for mine; but just not enough space. I thought about trying to use one of those quick release pins people use on like fenders/hoods
