That's the one! they also had a 60/40 split bench if someone found that more desirable, and similar looking buckets.

I like those seats but they are a royal pain in the ass to recover because they are molded. If I could find a black one I'd roll with it :D

  3. These are the newer-ish Chevy pickup transplants that came already in my '50 AD panel truck. I'm gradually scraping off a lot of the "street rod" influences on it, but I think I'll keep the seats,........ partly because I like the built-in seat belts. In my case, I like being able to step through to the cargo area. I might reposition each seat outboard an additional 1/2" so I'll have an inch more in between for my big feet.

Molded as in the foam is molded? Just curious, I know little about upholstery.

Being in the business, how hard would it be to re-foam the carcass and make a traditional cover for it?

  6. Can't you just go right over the factory material to avoid the struggle ?

  7. I've had all 3 styles in it, the 60/40 and the fold down armrest models (armrest set up like 60/40) make you sit a bit left of the steering wheel since it's a contoured foam design, the early models of the bench were the flattest, this bench is an 89.
    Here's the 60/40

I use the 88-98 seats in all the 55 -72 trucks I build, and yes the upholstery shops dont like em because they say they have to peel the fabric off the foam.

Yep, I find these to be fairly comfortable too, if you can find one that's not fubar'd

The pattern is in the foam, I've never been to the factory and seen them made, but it's all heat formed and the cover is glued to the foam. When you try to pull the material off it'll tear the foam up. You can recover them, 1/2" sew foam will absorb some of the pattern, but not all.

I just looked at swade41's seat again, I'm not sure that one is molded. Terry text me earlier that he had one that appears to be 56", said it's got a good cover on it too, but it's tan. I'm gonna go get it next week

That's how we did them back when we had S&S Automotive. Glue a piece of 1/2" sew foam down, then use 1/2" on your covers. It works decent

for the 88-98 style, if you find a cheaper version truck that has vinyl covering they don’t have the formed foam. Much easier to upholster. Also, stay away from the ‘95 -98 style as that foam is contoured to your body and doesn’t line up well with the steering wheel on the 47-54 style trucks.

  15. Apparently, I need to start looking for an 88-94 seat as well. Hopefully with a nice blue upholstery.

This evening I jumped in the cab and installed the new turn signal switch, made a bracket for the brake light switch, and stuck it all together. I've got a hot wire hanging for the headlight relay, but that's as far as I got. Brake, tail and turn signals work fine. Didn't take pictures. I have some crayons, guess I could draw some  :D

@Lloyd that seat looks like it fits pretty good. What do you think it came from?
I have a 1991 chebby daily driver .... I thought about putting the buckets in it and the bench from the chebby in my 49 Dodge.
My 1991 bench is about 58.5" and kinda too wide ... when I close the doors the edge of the seat will be right up against the doors. .... and molded so would not really be sitting centered with the steering column.

I'm going to have to agree that @swade41 has a really sweet looking seat
I'm guessing it is a 1973-1987 C10 (square body seat)

  24. The bench seat I currently have in the 57 is from a 1989, like I had mentioned the earlier OBS truck seats seam more flatter but the later ones towards the end of the series have a more contoured foam.
It's like they have molded in side bolsters on each side of the spot (60/40) they want you to sit in, even that 89 has some in it.

This seat is the back seat from a square body blazer. It's 50" wide. Got about 4" open on each side of the seat. It's too small, I've got half an ass cheek hanging off one side lol
