well, that was short lived... took the back seat out and the cross member is right under the seat and to the top of the raised floor...so, back to the drawing board... so what I need to do is remove the valance on the rear and re try the 32 tank, also It will slide all the way in to the filler neck..

I don't mind the look so much when they are full fendered.

Anybody got pics of any without fenders ? Been kinda heading this way on my 31 Tudor but I'm thinking of running bobbed rear fenders or none at all....

thanks for the post and pic... looks like the dagels kit install.... I can slide my tank to where the filler neck touches the body... not to keen on the look of the tank haning back there and sticking out so far as my look is to be a drag /street race banger

I'm starting to think 30/31 is different on the rear of the Cdan

David used the Duece frame rail ends to attach tank in stock '32 configuration.

Well, so far I took all the rear interior (seat and floor) out...didn't come up with a way to put a tank inside the rear, so back to the 32 tank idea......looks like no problem to slide the tank in to where the filler neck is about 1/2'' from the body with the valance removed, puts the tank up about 4'' more.... so looks like that what we will do...not the best looking idea.... but it's the best we came up with...

I'll be doing that shortly, and will post some pics along the way..using the 32 tank and frame horns and fabing up the rest...also moving the rear shocks to the front side as they where on the rear side...wouldn't be able to remove the shocks with the tank in, and they were also too long after the car was lowered...

Just in case you'd like to see more 30/31 pix:

Who knows what this tank and frame rails are? I'm guessing custom made for this car.

    Here's a 28/29 with 32 tank:

...and here's one with some kind of tank back there:

How about trimming the valance above the tank and leaving some of it on the ends to fill some of the void be tween the tank and the fenders. Then shove the tank under the car till the fill tube is as close to the body as can be and still fill the tank.

I think if you cut the verticals brace out of the body below the back window you could run a ford f-truck gas tank that would normally be behind the trucks bench seat. I’ve seen that done a few times. I think @flatout51 may have done that at one point with a filler out the side of the car

He did his in a Tudor and still had the back seat. I was going to do the same in mine but went a different direction. Plenty of room to scoot that back seat forward

    @2FORCEFULL ,

Thank you for starting this thread. My '31 two door sedan is a half-finished project that was started over 30 years ago and has sat nearly all of the time 'til now. The car has '32 rear frame horns (on the "A" frame) and has had a '32 tank mounted. However the tank got lost. None-the-less, you're doing pretty much what I have envisioned. The way it's done now is pretty much the way that most of these pix show. I like your idea of shoving the tank as far forward as is possible. Ed removed the fenders for the highboy look but I've bought replacement fenders, splash aprons, running boards, etc. I'm anxious to see pix of yours when you get further along.

Full fendered A with a deuce tank looks unfinished without the deuce rear frame horn covers.

that is a fabricated tank, not a ‘32 tank.
I had fitment issues on one car and considered mounting the tank under the top off the frame rails even packing it down, to make it work.
On a stock ‘32 sedan the body is indeed shorter so it appears that the tank sticks out more than on a coupe or roadster.
so looking at post 19 you are correct with your observation !

    Not likely to be reproduction,
looks homemade, different bracket to bolt to top of chassis, curve’s don’t look the same as original, angle of filler cap looks different.
(Sad really that I notice these things, but last year I spent a lot of time refitting / refurbishing 2 original ones…………..)
I suspect that it is a one off made by owner to look like a ‘32 (or perhaps a reproduction one without the correct brackets)- looks close enough for most.

Top tank Vintique with side gussets. Bottom tank from Tank's no gussets. I think the Tanks tank is a better quality stamping so I always add the gussets.

thanks for the post a pic,... pretty much what I'm doing but I bought the frame horns, spreader bar and tank... I'm sliding my tank in to where I can just be able to get the cap off, so probley 4/5'' in farther than the pic you post...

You don't have to remove the vertical brace. Just need to make mounts and a F1 48-52 tank fits pretty well.
