    Hello,

In 1960, I took a film of one of the nicest SBC supercharged FED race cars at Lion’s Dragstrip. It was owned and built by Manuel Gonzalez. The showcase build was featured in other magazines and we were lucky to see it in person, in the staging lane at the dragstrip.

Then, many years later, another Manuel Gonzalez build showed up at the So Cal local dragstrips. It was called the “CALIFORNIAN 2.”

I have to admit, this drawing took forever to draw, detail as much as possible and select the color that was the closest to the actual build. Months ago, every time I started to draw a section, it did not look right and after a while, another roadster or custom cruiser popped into the old brain and took over the artwork. The Californian 2 then took a back seat for a week or so, then another week and so on.

As I worked when the hand decided to do some detailing, the Modified Roadster started to shape up. Then finally, clearing out my files of extras and unfinished projects, I came upon the mid-stopping point and decided to spend several days finishing the art project. We all have time to relax and enjoy drawing as much as possible. Between long mystery novels, sitting around enjoying life and breaking out the art stuff, it is fun… YRMV

This time, it was not Chevy powered… there was “bigger game” to hunt down at this stage of drag racing in So Cal.

I actually have a couple things to share this week! B-Scott Studios just got us the t-shirt artwork for the 2024 Hot Rod Hundred Reliabilty runs featuring a couple HAMBers cars.

And, a friend of mine, Will Bailey added some stripes to the sign I made for my grandson to finish it off.

This thread is so cool Jeff. Remembering the really old days when there would be an "artist" doing custom weirdo shirts, on demand, at many major indoor car shows. I imagine that airbrushing t-shirts in public buildings is totally against the environment today. But it sure is a great memory.
