    Hey, Anthony;
What is that bumper from? Looks almost familiar, but I can't place it.
    TIA.
    Marcus...

  7. The original one we had to straighten from the wreck.
The other bumper donated it’s brackets.
We just about got it straightened.
One small patch for the fender under the headlight and we’re gonna body work and prime the fender and apron.
A small repair on the rear body as well.
Probably straighten the rear bumper in our press next week

the grill was bent and twisted. It’s getting closer as well

  8. Oh, and wanted to see what the other, less gaudy bumper looked like.
I guess I’m leaving this one with the ugly bumper.

  9. Go with it, I like ugly...

I had a good shop teacher in high school, took it all 4 years and was assistant my senior year, which meant I just goofed off a lot, but there was never anything like this. Is bodywork a separate course?

  13. It’s a collision class.
I sneak in some old cool stuff when it fits.
It’s a 3 year high school course. Unfortunately class time is short. Bout 1.5 hours.
The welding and cutting cycled every 3 years. But a curriculum change will have 2nd year students doing that every year.
This is one of the welding and cutting class projects.

these are pieces that resemble unibody structure. Students prepped them, applied a DTM primer to the inside, a weld thru in the weld area then resistance spot welded them. After that a section was removed (spot welds removed and a slice thru one side) then that section was prepped again and welded back on with a mig.
Demonstrating how to section body panels.

it’s not perfect. Students had some sand scratches they missed. I knew they were there. Now they know what to look for and why.
    Gotta learn somehow.

I envy the hell out of these kids and what you are teaching them. Sure wish I had someone like you when I was a kid.

  17. Previous owner beat the crap out of a dent with a claw hammer

got a new 4.5 inch shrink disc
    IMG_7087.jpeg
getting used to the smaller disc. It feels different than the large ones.
    IMG_7086.jpeg
Students made good progress with it.
Should be almost filler free when done

  18. These hubcaps popped up. 15s look kinda cool
    IMG_7121.jpeg
    might pull the trigger

  19. Since we’re fixing the major dents on the merc I’ve considered shaving handles.
I do like the Lincoln push button. The merc only has the one drivers door lock anyway. Could leave it.
But probably only use em on the front doors. Considering solenoids.
I’ve installed a pair of the Lincoln’s from @CoolHand in the past. Worked out nice.
    Go flush or no? Hmmmmmm
I’ll dig thru my junk pile and see if I still have some cable style latches for the trunk.

Those hubcaps are neat, but I wonder how deep your wheel needs to be for them to seat? That base cap looks really familiar, I'm trying to place it. I know I've had issues with hubcaps that wouldn't fit on certain steel wheels because the caps would bottom out on the center of the wheel before seating on the outer rim.

If they're local, I'd bring one of your intended wheels over and snap it on first, to make sure they'll go.

  21. Mine has OE merc wheels. A regular caddy sombrero fits with the dog dish looking mount removed. Looks like these mount on the outer rim instead of like the other ones I have.

  22. Acquired a truck load of old transmission junk. There was a very nice Chevy FW with the Borg and Beck bolt pattern
    IMG_7219.jpeg
SBC FW with the merc clutch.
The merc input has some wear on it
    IMG_7224.jpeg
need a new pilot bushing for the adapter. No big deal.
    IMG_7223.jpeg
the pile of transmission parts should yield 2 gm OD 3 speeds.
    One Muncie and one Saginaw.
Also had a new pressure plate and disc for a gm trans in the parts pile.
I’ve got a bell bor both small and large gm FW.
Was kinda thinking about using a gm trans. It’s already set up for the Merc trans. Would have to add a slave cyl set up and handle the drive shaft.
    Hmmmmmmm

  23. The larger shrink disc works better

    15s. Not perfect.
    Fine for me

  27. I'm sure I'll get corrected if I'm wrong, but I believe the Saturn was only on true Olds hubcaps. I'd run them!
