Anyone ever mount AC with double hump heads? (with no accessories holes).. yeah…I’m a pussy, but I’m a pussy in Florida and July -August they cancel the big swap meets BECAUSE IT IS TOO DAMN HOT…and humid…did I mention humid? Any lead on brackets, especially OEM brackets would be awesome.
Look for bracket's from a early to mid 60's Impala or Mid-Year 'Vette. Only drawback is that those car's used the BIG compressor. IIRC, the Corvette and Impala part's distributor's used to sell the bracket and adjuster kit's.
Off the front 2 intake bolts, water pump, and exhaust was standard in the 60-70’s with aftermarket units. Mark IV was the most popular. They all used those square compressors. I installed quite a few Allstates when I worked for Sears Inglewood.
Alan Grove 113R. Attaches to exhaust, intake, water pump, kind of like the OEM brackets did. The aftermarket brackets work with the modern Sanden style compressors. OEM work with the Frigidaire A6. Might want to be more specific about what AC compressor you have? or will get?
Alan Grove makes several short waterpump AC mounts depending on where you need or want to locate the compressor. for around 115 greenies it isn't worth trying to cobble something together. https://www.alangrovecomponents.com/Small_Block_Short_Pump.htm
Feels worth mentioning that Alan grove is located here in a small shop in the kc metro. If you feel some sort of way about aftermarket at least you know he’s here and a small shop
Alan Grove shows a couple of styles that put the compressor up and in with 68 and earlier no bolt hole heads. That If there is no room to have it out to the side. Guys can badmouth AC all they want but it has been in cars since the 40's. I've said it before. My wife earned her ride in a hot car with no AC creds going to rod runs in Texas in the 70's plus several cross country trips in the 80's and later. Now it is time to actually enjoy the road part of a road trip and not be so bagged out at the end of 5 or 600 miles at the end of the day that we can't enjoy our selves for a couple of hours.
I have a Zip's water pump that came with all the parts to mount a/c and alternator. Nothing mounts to the heads.
I used the Grove brackets on them with a Sanden compressor-worked like a charm. I think they were 3/16" or 1/4" steel and bolted up for a perfect fit. No vibration at all. Expensive back then but worth the price.
Ok question since I never have done an AC install on anything. Now, I do know Alan Grove is a good company. Would it be possible that Vintage Air is repackaging Alan Grove brackets? They look to be the same design.
AC car "pussys" orig post, appeared around 1972 in our neighborhood. We rarely rode in a car with AC, most cut the V belt due to fuel prices. AC cars were only the rich kids, or their Dad worked at GM or Ford. Our first car with air was 1975 Impala.
Man those brackets pictured above that put the ac comp and alt way up over the valve covers and close together really look awful to me.... AC has no place on a hot rod in my world, your results may vary, I wouldn't put those street rod looking parts on anything I own....If you have to do it search out the factory brackets from a mid sixties chevy
the aftermarket is making new compressors that replace the A6, but don't look like it. If I lived in MN, my view of AC might be quite different....
Im not suggesting the AG brackets look better, but the factory brackets on the 283 in my 64 C10 are huge, heavy & ugly as sin. The ol Frigidaire compressor is also a behemoth too.
My '47 Plymouth is similar to your Pontiac as far as basic dimensions and the Zip's unit which raises the fan spaces it great at pulling the air through with the a/c going.
