Projects Bought a Mercury on purpose

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by anthony myrick, Feb 4, 2023.

  1. I’m not the expert. But I plan to use em.
Another guy bought em at an estate sale. I tried to buy em from him there. Ha called me back an hour later. We worked out a deal

They are 56 OLDS Starfire caps. I think that you are correct about the Saturn. The aftermarket that I recall had a grid/checkerboard background.

Now I want you to imagine your only 17, it is 1957, your a city kid, dad just got home driving this, it is a week before Prom night, your ride is a 1947 four door Gray Kaiser that your going to pick up that very special someone in Prom night, and your Dad says, "Take this instead"
It happened to me. Ok I violated something here, but hey you ever hear a better story from a 85 year old?
    ************************************************************************

Now for the rest of the story: as Paul Harvey always said, but only if you want it to be told, (it, is just slightly car related, more life related).

  4. I was going caddy sombreros.
    I’ve got 2. Found a couple more.
But I think I’ll run these Olds caps.
Showed up at the start of the estate sale. The guy that found these caps went right and I went left. Couldn’t believe these were there.
We exchanged numbers and he called me back. Nice guy. Super fair price.
Got to talking with him and his friend. The friend has a pile of fender skirts for stuff he doesn’t have a clue what they fit. and a sun visor.

Hope he calls me back again

I’m not a hubcap man, but I think $100 was a great price.

  18. I'd get the final Grill mounted and set the Hood on then let them tell you what treatment to do. Personally, I like 53-55 F-100 S.S. trim rings.

that one is broke in the wrong spot. what you want is a 3/4 cam.... 3/4 length, that is why they idle a little rough

I like the Olds caps, and I like the '53 Merc headlight rings. What are those hooded die cast headlight bezels from? If those are the GEM branded aftermarket ones that were supposed to make a Chevy look like a '53 Cadillac, they're crazy valuable.

  26. I think 55 Buick special.
Grabbed them and the side trim 20 years ago at a pic-a-part

OK that makes way more sense, they do look like '55 Buick.

  29. Think we’re going to trim the painted buckets down about 3/4 to an inch.
    They just look too long.
