Tomorrow- valve train and intake. I swear if I did this for a living I’d go broke because I’m so slow.

it goes faster if you paint it after you assemble it all....

Anyways, I didn't do much today...put some antifreeze in Plan II, and rubbed on the wheels on the Corvette. I don't do that very often, like never.

Planned on doing my valve train install today but realized I hadn’t cleaned the rockers, pushrods, ect. On cleaning realized many rockers were shot. Mucho wear and galling. I ended up just ordering a whole new set of 16 rockers. So build will be on hold for a few days in true turtle speed fashion. :) IMG_0859.jpeg IMG_0860.jpeg

Replacing pushrods at the same time might be wise also.

  14. I agree, but years ago, who would have thought we would be looking for and saving exhaust manifolds!

  15. I’ve got the other one somewhere
I’d like to have another chrome slot like this
I kept the SBF gen and mount
Supposed to get the oil fill timing cover

  16. Yesterday Little Truckdoctor and I started the reassembly of our new to us 20’ car trailer. We painted it last fall, and yesterday Little Truckdoctor put all the lights and D rings on while I started wiring it. Hopefully, I can finish the wiring this afternoon and next weekend we will start installing the new decking on it.

I learned that lesson the hard way

Anyways, I've been tinkering with interior stuff again. Almost done...needs the driver side arm rest finished, and the steering wheel really looks out of place now. I'm working on ways to make it red, that don't involve complicated painting, which I promised I wouldn't do at my new digs.

  19. We finished the wiring today on our new to us trailer. The brake wiring hasn’t been connected yet because I want to make sure the brake magnets are still good, we just ran out of time. IMG_7261.jpeg IMG_7262.jpeg IMG_7263.jpeg IMG_7269.jpeg IMG_7268.jpeg IMG_7264.jpeg

Helped my father in law finish up his wood floor installation.

He pushed this project to the side for me last winter when we did a lot of rust repair on my Suburban, so I've been trying to repay my debts by helping him out. Next week I'll be trying to sort out a working AC system for him from some random box of used parts he got at Carlisle.

OK. I might possibly have one, but I know it's small Ford pattern.

  25. Since my wiring is pretty much done on the 41 next on the list is changing the power brakes to manual. The plan is to just shorten the pushrod and make an adapter plate to mount the master cylinder where the booster previously mounted.
Not sure if I'm reusing that proportioning valve or just putting a manual one in the rear line.

I've been fighting an exhaust gasket for several hours. The three-bolt header collector to cone gasket. I was doing this with Clarence held up on cribbing and there was barely room enough to get under there on a creeper. I couldn't really see what I was being stumped by. Eventually I crawled back out of there and compared the old gasket to the new one. LO AND BEHOLD!!! The holes didn't line up exactly. The new gasket had holes about 1/32" - 1/16" closer together than the old one. So I "wallered" out the new gasket to match the old one and it fit. With my limited field of vision it had looked like everything should have fit but it didn't.

Note 1: I'm really jealous of those of you who have a lift in your shop.

Note 2: The headers are block huggers so the exhaust was pointing straight down and all sorts of stuff was in my way. Had these been "regular" headers with the collector being horizontal it would have been a piece of cake.

Note 3: Aint hindsight great? The quick way to enlarge the holes would have been to drill the 3/8" hole to 7/16" or whatever would have made the holes line up. I considered that while I was doing it but thought that I shouldn't take that much material off. Now I see that it wouldn't have made any difference.

The headers are cheap stainless steel Chinese headers from eBay. I wish now I had sprung for Sandersons or something. If I had been the one to originally install these I would have already been around this block and would have known what to do.

It's after midnight and I'm heading for bed. I'll start it up tomorrow to make sure I got it in right.

Perhaps this post might save someone a headache down the road.

Chevrolet Foot Starter rebuild. Discovery! Pencils point to two broken contacts. I just ordered some parts so I’m going to spend the afternoon cleaning up the case and preparing for the new parts. I know I’m all Jaques Cousteau on this deep sea expedition. I’ll have to wear a dark beanie whilst I work. The field coils are oily dirty and the brushes were on their last legs. Glad I ran into this trouble now instead of halfway through Kentucky.
Pencils point to broken off field leads.

  29. They are great! Before the completely encapsulated trailer harnesses came along on semi trailers, the boxes were industry standard. I bought 2 of them at work, Techtran brand and when I laid out the harness routing, I needed one more for the brake circuits. I ordered one from the internet, and it was a no name. It works, but not the quality of the Techtran brand. Cheapshit Andy.
I probably didn’t post a picture of the front, but I configure my trailers like semi trailers for the truck to trailer cords. The trailer has a female socket on the front, just like the truck. I have a cord under the backseat in my truck with two male ends on it. This keeps the trailer cord out of the weather when parked.
