So I found another one for sale.I'm not going to get it, because it needs and deserves a complete disassemble and refresh with lots of chrome redone. However, maybe the minds of HAMB can ID this one.
Seller says it was first titled in 1969 and has all the hallmarks of a show rod. Fully chromed chassis with all three cross members bolted in, F1 steering, SBC with 4 speed and Jaguar IRS, most also chromed. It got updated some in the 90s, so not all the OE stuff survived. Missing stuff includes a blower and the windshield, and the rear wheels and valve covers are modern era that I can spot easily. I didn't ask about paint, but I doubt it was a solid Blue back in the days of Himsl and others. he sent a couple pics of the bare chassis when the engine was swapped. The blower required holes in the ends of the heads and small hoses to radiator, that was also changed later, but the plugs can be seen in the first picture.
So imagine it with a full vertical windshield, slot wheels and slicks, a blower and late 60s paint. I looked at vintage show coverage and the brass wasn't 'in' yet, either.
Does this ring any bells for a show T in the 69-72 era?

Here's a link to 1970 Oakland show pics. It's too new for HAMB, so it's just a link. But it shows what this would look like back then.

4bbl is not included, it was used to install the Black engine. It's got the tunnel ram set back in place.
Unless you're pulling my leg? Next you're going to tell me the heads are uber cool, too. I don't have the GM minutia down. Doesn't matter, I am not looking for another project, no matter how cool. It needs someone who can have those front wheels rechromed and respoked, along with all the other stuff that is past buffing.

  19. RodStRace, the link from Ron brooks that you posted, I was at that show, I was 12 years old. My Dad's car was in that show that year, I may have had my custom Bicycle in that show too. I wish car shows were that cool today. You've got to wonder, where did all those cars go?

  20. Ok, I have to ask a question, I would go to Washington DC with my Mom and Dad to an indoor car show, a show like the Grand National Roadster Show they now have in Pomona, I think it was at an armory, I was maybe 8 or 9 years old, so it would have been 1966, or 67. I remember going a few consecutive years. The question, Does anyone remember seeing this, "T" Buckets, and maybe a few model"A's" in the show, had the grille and radiator removed. In their place was a fish tank with live fish, inside the grille shell. A full on decorated aquarium. I know I'm not imagining this, the acid days came way later. I don't seem to have any pictures of this, nor could I find anything doing an online search. That's probably something you couldn't get away with today. Was it just an east coast thing, or did it happen elsewhere?

Fat - never ventured out east, never saw what you are describing.
There were a number of show rides that still sit in the ol' noggin.
San Diego had a 1956 F1oo that was perfect Black and had the entire underside chromed. There was a 1955 Chevy that was also razor sharp Black, with 150 or 210 trim airbrushed on the side. Another was a Yellow 1956 F100 that had huge rears tucked up under, but the wheels were like Halibrands but 3 spoke, not 5. Stared at those a while!
There were some amazing cars and trucks. I'd guess that probably at best they got stored away like the one above and uncertain T. Most probably ended up driven, parted or junked. Very few had caretakers who kept them up over all the years. They all had that moment in the bright lights, which most things built and used by humans don't. There is a thread about current show paint. I remember being blown away by some of the talents back then. Experience over the years has increased the eye for perfection and refined taste, but as my dad told me back then, Genius is an infinite capacity to take pains. There were geniuses back then, too and that describes perfection in paint as well as other pursuits.
That link has a bunch of other shows from the era. Most are past the cutoff, but still cool.
