Just heard from a friend that the people who own the Beaches Restaurant, and put on the Wed. night cruise in at PIR are selling the restaurant, and will no longer do the Wed. night cruise in next year. Not sure if whoever buys the restaurant will do the cruise still, or if maybe PIR management will consider taking over the cruise as part of their Wed. drags also? Up in the air for now, until this summer when maybe some questions will be answered.
It will be missed. In more ways than one. Every dime they pulled in from the summer long cruise in went to charity to help local families. This from their website; The Beaches’ Team is proud of our community involvement which began soon after our first restaurant opened in 1995 in Vancouver, Washington. The proceeds from these events and activities go right back into the community to help families directly, or indirectly through programs. Almost all of our funds are used for basic needs or educational programs to help kids succeed. Our criteria for giving comes down to a simple premise – It must have a positive affect on a local family with 100% of the monies committed to a specific cause/program. We reached our goal of giving back $1,000,000 in donations by 2011 and worked hard to reach the $2,000,000 mark by the end of 2015. We surpassed $3.4 Million in donations by the end of 2022 and are on our way to $4 Million by 2025. We will also continue programs like Read across Clark County, Beaches Summer Social & Cruisin’, Cashback Days, Holiday Meals, Charity Tables and anything else that involves You! We can’t thank our Sponsors of the Cruisin’ enough for all their help & dedication. And, special thanks to Leslie Durst & the Courtney Irvin Foundation. We appreciate your commitment to our community. This is accomplished by our continued partnerships with people in the community who support our mission. Thank you!
Yep, got the email a couple weeks ago from my Friends of PIR membership account. Figured I’d let the dust settle a bit before I posted anything. We all hope this situation can turn into a positive and keep doing good things.
For those unfamiliar with this weekly cruise, car counts can vary from 600 to 2,000 cars and trucks, so there is always something for everyone who attends. That, along with the drag races going on at the same time, it's quite a show ! I take it, that it will run this Summer, and be up in the air from then on ?
I made it to the Beaches cruise with my Roadster and a bunch of the Portland area guys over 20 years ago. It was a lot of fun. I lived in Portland for maybe a year or so.
Yeah I am buddies with the MHRC rep that helps with the volunteers and this year will be the same as always, next year no clue. The restaurant is not being sold, but just outright closed from what I have seen, so no clue on next year if anyone will take the baton or if it goes away.
It's hard to find a buyer for a small business these days no matter how popular or successful the business is.
Read an article in the Vancouver Business Journal that stated Mark Matthias and the team will work with the Clark County Events team to find a partner to continue programs for the community they’ve supported without a hitch or delay in the programs. Obviously PIR isn’t in Clark County but hopefully Mark and The Beaches team have the same approach with helping to find a partner to keep the positive rolling on PIR Wednesday nights for years to come.
I was just reading that the Beaches restaurant location will be reoccupied by the Oswego Grill, sure hope they don't take over the Beaches PIR cruise, that crowd is of the Mercedes and BMW ilk, it would look more like Pebble Beach.
Yikes! Already enough of those type of cars getting let in by the gate! Sure hope they don't change the already poorly enforced gate entry rules!
I always looked forward to having a beer and those grilled sausage dogs with mustard and saurkraut, I guess I'll have to learn to like Grey Poupon!
Used to live in Lake Oswego and have been to Oswego Grill. Your concerns are safe dude. Couldn’t fire up my OT Camaro with non factory exhaust in that town without the neighbors calling the cops and the PoPo giving me the stink eye if they saw me drive by. Honestly got pulled over for not signaling while going through a marked 15mph curve near my then house. “Technically” the street name changed as you made the curve. “Technically” I was supposed to signal because of the street name change. Had similar issues with my 35 year old at the time square body chevy truck with only 60k on the odometer. Couldn’t get out of that town fast enough after my divorce. Pretty sure Oswego Grill won’t be touching the Cruise.
