So, Im doing some work for a friend and I need to install the torsion bars in his trunk hinges. I am lost! Any help Would be great.
pictures would help. Remember, a torsion bar is just a straight spring. It twists to give you the force you need. Anchor one end, usually the hinge end and then get a pipe or tube that fits over the other end to twist (preload) it and set it down in the opposite bracket.
That’s how it was done in the factory. The guy working that job had so stout arm’s a shoulders. 50 cars and hour
There’s a tool, it has a u shaped slot in the one end that goes onto the bar then a hole you use to lift the the sticking out end of the bar into the slot. Have a google for Ford trunk spring tool
I tried to reinstall that @#$%& thing in my 67 Nova, the shop manual says it takes a special tool, the key is being able to stand on your head. So, I built some mounts off the hinges and installed gas struts, they work slick.
. My problem is that the torsion springs are laying in the trunk, I dont know which end goes where, a pic of a set installed in a 65 chevelle would help a lot.
