IMG_5417.jpeg I’ve searched and not found the information I’m looking for. I have a yblock in my A coupe and it’s still running the stock exhaust setup with the crossover pipe. I’m wondering if there will be any interference with the dipstick if I try to run the rams horn style manifolds?

I’ve only ever seen the available through speedway so this helps a lot. Thanks!

Do a search, sbc headers can fit a y block pretty easy.

  5. This is from someone who did the measurements:

    Y-Block
    7 Bolt holes
18" outside bolt hole to outside bolt hole
2 3/4 bolt spacing spanning each port
3 3/8 bolt spacing between outer ports and center ports

    SBC
    6 Bolt holes
17 1/2 outside bolt hole to outside bolt hole
2 1/4 bolt spacing spanning each port
4 1/2 bolt spacing between outer ports and center ports

I believe we can call this myth "busted"

Depending on the oil pan, you could run a Thunderbird dipstick it is in the front of the exhaust .

I believe it’s a truck 272. Has the truck oil pan at least.

How it’s done is to cut the SBC pipes flush at the flange and weld them to a Y-block flange. Cutting up the SBC flange up can be done but looks pretty hokie.

I have the ram horns on my 292 with the standard truck dipstick in the same location you show here. Works fine.

When I comes to cars and coffee in San Jose, he has a portrait that I happen to walk by and saw the headers on it and I asked him. He said I don't know they were on there when he bought it. So we were looking at it and someone on the internet with saying if you split the metal pipes. 3/4 of a Inch I guess you put the other bullhole. Be really, really close.

    Really pretty, very nicely done.

  22. Roadwarrior, You have what looks like the truck dipstick. What Wanderlust posted looks more like the T-bird set up. The trucks, at least the larger trucks had a rear sump pan so the dipstick is on the right side center of the motor. The cars used a front sump and the dipstick would be on the right side of the motor up front. As you can see in Wanderlust's photos his dipstick looks a little more narrow and curves up close to the block/head closer, and is longer, yours has a more stiff "stick" that cannot take the curved tube so the tube is straight.
You may need to try to find a T-bird set up, but good luck with that. Or the car set up may work. I say may because the car uses the front sump pan and you have the truck rear sump pan. So the car stick may bottom out on the bottom. I think your best bet would be to see if you can make a dipstick that follows the block like Wanderlust's does.
