labeled as a "1939 - View of Venice Pier from the beach Venice, California." Is this the Venice Pier or a later photo of the Pacific Ocean Palisades (P.O.P.) Pier? We believe it to be the P.O.P. with Venice Beach in the foreground. Both were within a short walking distance south of the Santa Monica Pier, CA. In 1935 Route 66 was extended from 7th & Broadway in L.A. along Santa Monica Blvd. then to the intersection of Lincoln & Olympic Blvd. The highway never officially extended to the Santa Monica Pier. (Fed. regulations required that a US Highway end at an intersection with another highway, in this case, US 101 Alt).
