    upload_2024-3-12_16-21-18.png NOT!
    Hello,

Sorry, but that photo is totally distorted, showing of one of the favorite So Cal race cars from the way back time machine. I am sure it is not what the members of the club would like the public to see. The Vulcans Car Club has its vast history from Wilmington, CA that borders on Long Beach. Wilmington also is the city borderline of the Lion’s Dragstrip proper. If one is from Wilmington, Lions is on the city property. If one is from Long Beach, as you take several steps from one side of the entrance sign on 223rd Street, you have just crossed the end of Wardlow Road from Long Beach.

For many years, the folks that came from the Eastern areas of So Cal crossed Long Beach and entered Wardlow Road to lead them to the entrance. From Los Angeles freeways, it was simple. From San Diego, the freeways or Coast Highway was the route from the South. They all entered from Wardlow Road. But, unbeknownst to 90% of the people, it was 223rd Street as one turned into the entrance sign.

As for the totally distorted photo that is not very flattering to anyone in the photo or the photographer who took the original shots, here is a much better photo of the trophy display, the race car and the Vulcans members.

As all old photos are, some are clear and others need help. This photo was taken at the same time as the posted, distorted photo and we can all get a much better understanding of the club and wins that garnered the massive amount of trophies, the majority that came from Lion’s Dragstrip. (in Wilmington…) YRMV

Pretty unusual to see a car backdated to use drum headlights (which were obsolete by 1927).
