My pals Mel, Scott and I classed up Cars and Coffee at UTC last Saturday. The only hot rods there out of over 500 cars. Topped off the morning with a cruise out to Salt Works Fab to check out what's going on there. Great morning. 3B0BBE23-E713-45A6-A1C3-C25BB2E8671B.jpeg

  2. Nice pic. Do the locals call it "the senior parking area" ? :)

saw online that at a Cars & Coffee gathering in Texas they no longer allow late model muscle cars because of exhibition of speed & burn outs. on most of the builder TV shows & big car shows excessive burn outs is the only way to prove yourself. I enjoy high performance too but, time and place for it.

  4. This was overheard coming from two old guys in plaid Bermudas and black knee socks, cruising in scooter chairs Saturday.

“Those dang hot rodders are takin’ over, I tell ya, Bernie.
Yeah there’s just three of ‘em now, but just ya wait. Soon it will be a dozen, then two dozen and then the Corvette and Mustang guys will just QUIT comin’, and this place will go at hell!
There aught a be a law!”

    WELL DONE, BRIAN!

No, that's the row of new Corvettes, where the owners all wear jeans shorts and white New Balance shoes...;)

Maybe I'm getting old, but it seems to me that the proliferation of burn out videos, street takeovers, and general automotive mayhem on all the social media platforms fuels this. No matter that most of them end with the Mustang slamming sideways into a curb, tree or crowd of cheering on-lookers. I think gives people the feeling, "Hey, they're all doing it, so I will too." I've never seen anyone leaving our local Cars and Coffee events doing a burnout, but the driver of almost EVERY car leaving, including half million dollar super-cars, seems to feel the need to run the engine right up to the rev-limiter in the bumper to bumper line of exiting cars. It's stupid. Inevitably, every time I leave there are a group of people (who by appearances DO NOT have the funds to support a car habit) are cheering for me to light the tires up or rev it up. I never do, and have been booed when I don't.

  8. I quit taking my cars to a small local show because of this, all the newer import stuff were doing burnouts leaving etc. When I brought up my concern with someone getting hit possibly I was told the kids like it so no problem.

  9. can we see that open windshield up close on the 34 coupe?

  10. Local C& C has just started its second season @ a city park in a somewhat residential area ... Car count is increasing...vast majority is typical tuner/mustang/exotic/ newer model stuff...very few rods..but fun to go to and coffee is free & good....Also increasing is the burnout/up on the rev limiter/WAO / wastegate noise exiting facility...My money is on the cancellation sometime this season .. Dang shame ...It's the old,old story of a few idiots ruining it for lack of proper public conduct

Way to represent! I don’t ever go to Cars and Coffee in my area because there are pretty much no cars that interest me. But, that being said, I guess that makes me part of the problem why there are no cool cars there to see?:rolleyes:

Only (3) hot rods is really a sad turnout, a changing of the guard I suppose, the Lincoln Speedway Motors coffee cruise is still at least a 50/50 split I would guess, I'll need to get a count between late & vintage this season, in so far as the burnout issue is concerned the Smith family & staff post signs at each event to "Save the burnouts for the track".

Definitely aging out. I rather like looking at exotics, and I appreciate that young guys (and women) are into cars AT ALL, so I try not to think a "stanced", turbo'd, Lexus or Mitsubishi looks goofy. They probably wonder why my car doesn't have fenders.

Well, I don't have a photo of it up close, but it's not unusual, they crank open. This car is an original steel body, the green one is glass and it too has an original w/s frame, hinges and regulator. It's how they are. Nothing special.

Seems the demographics play a huge part of the car scene around the country, the Midwest among others just for example trend towards more grass roots builds, or so it seems, while the retirement areas more exotics or creature comfort vehicles those folks at long last choose to enjoy..

Disposable income. More $$$, higher price toys. Brain power and common sense does NOT increase with income however.

idiots, even without late model rides, can shut down car shows, etc. like they did to Ed "Big Daddy" Roth's last show, held at Mooneyes in 2000

    Great looking threesome Brian..
Yes this area is all about high dollar sports cars, muscle cars, and street rods. you rarely see an early traditional Hotrod on the street.
I miss driving up home and seeing them.

I just happened to come across a few Cars & Coffee events last year in my neck of the woods. Each time, over 90% of the cars were high end exotics. Not sure who or how event is organized.

Now, if some trusting soul who happened to be driving an OT Lamborghini Countach, Murcielago or Aventador just happened to park next to me at a Cars and Coffee event, I wouldn't mind too much. I'd let him sit in my Merc 4 door and he could let me sit in his Lambo ;).

A couple months ago there was a new Lambo parked next to me at the UTC Cars and Coffee, who's owner was having kids set in his car. I gave him props for being a nice guy and doing that. So many people at car shows don't give spectators the time of day. Nice to see that all the owners aren't douche-bags.

Guys, the thing is, by being there you exposed the younger crowd to something they are not familiar with and gave them food for thought for the future. So that's a good thing. Personally I never got this car tribes thing. But maybe it's because I live in a small country where the authorities hate us all equally, so we generally don't have any animosity between the different "factions".

The stupid fuckers who do the stupid stuff we have everywhere, that's an international breed unfortunately.

Even at some of the local shows, one with around 1,000 entries, someone has to drive by and wind it up, blow it out, let you know that his 20 yr old Nissan has what it takes. Ass hats are everywhere.

Local C&C is sponsored by the Porsche club. I go out of my way to make sure I screw up their line up.
