Well, this is the end of this weeks episode, kiddies. I’m out to hunch. Or lunch. Gonna have to grab me a couple of buckets of Bondo and 1000$ worth of drawer knobs on the way back. Bet your’e lovin it
Looking forward to where this heads. I wonder if you could hit the button for “full image” instead of “thumbnail” when you post the pics? Makes them much easier to see especially if trying to zoom in and see details on what you are doing. Thanks
I bet it would look like a Fairlane! Would be an easy swap if the hoods interchanged. I remember there were two different bodies on the first year cars, so the Ford hood should work on the Ford based body. Never really cared much for the horse collar, but love that two piece split bumper.
I don't quite follow that. If you want your Edsel to look like a Fairlane, why build an Edsel? The 59 Edsel's have much nicer lines on the fenders and hood than the 59 Fairlanes IMO.
I think you'll find that the bigger 58 Edsels were built in the Mercury platform, but all the 59s were based on the smaller Ford platform, so yeah, some parts might interchange...but I really doubt the Fairlane hood would match up with the Ford fenders, etc very well.
It was just a thought on getting rid of the horse collar and the hood bulge in front for it. Nothing is ever as easy as it seems. Not having both cars, it would be hard to check fitment.
In sweden we call it the chromed ladies sexual organ. Woke as fu_k, huh? And there’s no getting rid of it in this case.
Art / beauty is in the eyes of the beholder - me lykes what ya doing - just don’t forget to sign yer masterpiece
Hey @don colaps Such a cool project! Indeed, the horse collar stays, its essential to this build ! Thanks for taking us all along, on a journey of metal evolution !
I love 59-60 chevies. There are so many great examples of those in customized form… but I cant afford one and I dont think I would cut one and I dont want to use the grille from none of them. I think they look best with other grilles than their cheap looking stock ones. Not that it matters what I think… haha
I'm liking the direction it's going now. Somehow it's more balanced with the center grille becoming less in your face. Keeping it all the same bathroom theme with 2 bathtubs and the other appliance in the middle appeals to my sense of continuity. "I'd drive that."
I wonder how 1960 Mercury grille bits would look in those spots between the lights and the horse collar? https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/1960-mercury-grill.1162024/ I know they look great in '59 El Caminos and Impalas.
Build plan, check, vehicle of choice, check, engine of choice, pending, color of choice, also pending, parts list, check, tires of choice, check, upholstery pattern of choice, check, seatbelts, triple check, insanity defense in case it all goes wrong, double check. Carry on.
Jaguar xjs headlights might be hard to find but look good and probably go super fast, fast as the light!
