  2. 9 out of 10 hotrodders use those taillights on its own stand - mounting these taillights where they are is really neat! The Bowtie emblem is the crowning touch to these taillights! Wondering how you plan on lifting your trunk lid in the very near future?

Very true, but you’ve seen this car and knew we couldn’t do anything like anyone else! It’ll have hinges I just hadn’t got to those or the doors yet. I’d you’re referring to a handle of some shit I hadn’t really gotten that far. I have some ideas but I want to think on it a bit more

  4. Couldn't have said it any better! Picked up an '88 700R4 trans late this morning, which should make an excellent HP rebuild by my buddy Shorty, an excellent transmission builder in Apache Junction, AZ.

  6. Yea, wanted an overdrive trans for a long time, just waited until my recent build to mock it up with all of the modifications that were completed. I ran 4:11's for its entire ownership, from 1995 to 2007 (last time she was roadworthy), rpm's were at 3,000 on the highway and more, burning up fuel with the original measly 10 gallon fuel tank, which only lasted 1.5 hours on the tank on long trips. Now my 20 gallon tank made of stainless steel, along with my overdrive trans will allow me more driving time on the streets! Like yourself and countless other hotrodders, I'm going to drive the living shit out of this awesome, rebuilt CHEVROLET HOT ROD!!!

Hell yeah! Are you using a a fuel cell or a round Spun aluminum tank? A hour and a half is a pretty long haul as it is. I feel like that would be good enough to stretch your legs. I’m ready to see how it all goes together.im
Hoping to get a hour and a half out of mine lol. I have a 13.5 gallon, Muncie and my gears are 4.56 I wanna way

  11. Nope, the fuel tank is designed to be mounted in the original location, just twice as deep, will be mounted in the trunk like yours. And I'm going to be much calmer, knowing that I don't have to be worried about a rear end collision! You can barely see the tank below.

You may want to think about those super tall gears though, you'll see some much higher rpms at your highway speeds. Unless your 4th manual gear will bring your rpms lower than I thought...

Brother, I couldn't wait to get out of my rod after 1-1/2 hours straight driving. The original bench seat springs were shot, to say the least. When I'm ready to have my Thunderbird buckets redone, it's a no brainer to add more foam before upholstery is installed. Speaking of foam, would memory foam be available to install for a MUCH more comfortable ride?? Food for thought!!

  12. Closer, and closer... Body is looking smoother than a baby's ass! Glad you decided against the recessed license plate holder. Your vintage plate will be noticed much more with that outstanding Bowtie license plate holder!

Oh yeah I see it! that's actually pretty cool. are you going to end up leaving the deck lid as a rumble seat? That's true too.

Yea, we'll have to see how it is with the muncie. Honestly it can't be any worse than my 65' gmc that has only a powerglide haha. I'm hoping running these taller tires evens things out a bit as well.

That's what I'm thinking as well haha. after that long of a drive I'd probably want to get out and just make sure the car is still in good shape; until I get more miles. I had the guy add a bit of foam to mine as well. I'm not sure how well the memory foam would be though, most modern cars don't have it either.

  14. I'm still set on converting my lid to a trunk, opening it from the bottom instead of pulling back. Once I remove the rumble stop as well, I'll have much easier access to my taillights for sure. I've had nothing but frustration whenever I had to change a bulb...

I just figured that the upholsterer would simply glue the piece on top of the regular foam, possibly a few inches thick, depending how he/she would figure how the seat bottom would look.

As far as your gears go, you know a lot more about standards than I know, so your combination is more likely true as far as rpms go.

I often travel in places where it is more than 1 1/2 hours between gas stations regardless of comfort. I hate it when I have to stretch my legs with a gas can in my hand and the other thumb sticking out. :D

hey I’m in Texas so I get it haha, my 65 gmc has a 305 v6 which gets maybe 7 mpg so I’m use to stopping every 100 miles as is anyway

I used POR-15 on the inside firewall and inside cowl because there were places it could seep in where I couldn’t sand. I thought it could seal things better. Then I applied oxide red over the POR-15. The rear quarters are getting a coat of Rust-oleum Rust Reformer to treat any minor rust. It’s supposed to chemically convert minor rust to iron oxide. Later I’ll spray a layer of epoxy primer to seal things up.
You can see I’ll need patch panels behind the doors in front of the wheel wells.

I didn’t the whole inside of my 35 in por15 as well. It’ll all be covered so I’m not worried about it. Going to seam seal what I need to and worry about it later.

Well I'll be danged.... I've been a member here for going on eight years- how how I never found this thread???
I've got the '41 in my avatar pic, a '50 Fleetline (half-way done and stored until I finish the '31), and I'm currently working on a '31 Sport Coupe, getting pretty close to getting it on the road. I could have really used some of y'all's knowledge as I was finishing up the wood installation and putting it all together, hee hee.
I know what I'll be doing the next few evenings- going back over all 118 pages of this thread!!

Welcome! I’m new to the HAMB and to this thread. Working on a 34 Chevy coupe. We’d love to see a few pics of your 31 and other projects.
I’m currently stripping rust from the interior of my 34. Got a little more stripped down tonight. Little by little . . . IMG_5052.jpeg IMG_5053.jpeg IMG_4270.jpeg

  28. When are you gonna mount your license plate - and have you thought about a license plate light yet? Where'd you mount the battery? Great job, your progress is very impressive!

Maybe this weekend while it's being wired up. I'm going to take this bracket and remove the teardrop and just use the Chevrolet part and the light(in the middle of the teardrop). Probably put a couple of studs on the back side of the chevy part. Battery is on the passenger side floor behind the seat.[IMG] upload_2024-3-23_1-50-31.png
