Definitely smaller than previous years as I recall.

 

I'm not seeing any "filler" cars in the background of your photos that I normally saw when walking the up to 4 rooms of the show in the past. A bit more space around each car from what I can see too though. Possibly quality over quantity.
I liked going to the show when it was down town because we could get a motel room room close by and walk to the show and some place to eat and not have to drive or worry about parking.

 

The convention center was a nice venue. I showed a car in the last PRS held there in 2010 I think. The expo buildings E and D are nice the others are showing their age.

I can’t show the pictures unfortunately of the high school challenge cars s as they don’t have money to buy H.A.M.B. friendly rides, but it is always one of my favorite displays.

I won Best in Class. I was nervous as there was a couple of excellent 40's that I posted pictures of above. As well as several that I couldn't take pictures of as they were far OT. These shows seem to favor those wild builds over HAMB stuff. I was very happy with the award. The light grey one did get 2nd place in the same category. I also won an award for Best Personal Display which I appreciated. That was a lot of work to build originally years ago and set up and take down.

Just about every other award went to an extremely OT 1970 ElCamino, it even won the Sweepstake's prize of $5000 (though I don't think that scratched the surface of his chrome bill). Best engine, best interior, best paint, best overall truck...you get the picture. It was amazing! Ridler quality car. I would have given it all those awards too.

I am happy with the results, my wife is proud, and it almost made the 4-hour award presentation worth it. Almost.
A guy I met while in line with our tailers to load out said he was at the Boise Show the weekend prior. When you came in Sunday the awards were next to your car and during the day they walked around and interviewed the big winners. For those of you that host shows, consider that one. This took longer than the Oscars without the half-naked women in designer gowns! We did have Eric Estrada, but he slipped away after an hour or so and rode off on his KZ1000 Police Bike into the sunset...well, actually he probably took a cab to the airport.

I've alway spent time checking out the high school kids cars. They are the future of the hobby even if their cars aren't normally hamb friendly. Remembering that when I was 16 and bought my first car in 1963 it was a very old and obsolete by my friend's standards 12 year old 51 Mercury.

Yes sir! It needs a couple more things like AC charge and some window stops that the glass guy didn't install that has caused some "issues".

Yeah 2009/2010 seems about right when they did the move out to the Expo. I first showed my own car in 2008 at it was at the Convention center. It was always a pain in the butt for load in and out, especially with a trailer. Was a great venue at the time, but after the parking ticket fiasco there was no way they were going back to it.

Ive always though a traditional, hamb era correct show in the old Coliseum where it used to be for years would be a neat venue, but I dont see it making money to even break even and would be a hard sell to get cars.

That would be cool to have a traditional show in the original home of the Roadster Show.

Yeah, I checked the date on my trophy and it was 2010, I thought that was the last year at the convention center. I picked up a 1st place for a wild camaro I built. I sold it to build the 41 Pickup. Good trade.

 

Went to my first PRS at the coliseum when "Tricky Dick" was in office.
It was quite the candy store for this budding hot rodder!

 

2nd home, it was in the National Guard Armory in 56 and moved by 60 or early 60s, cant recall, but everyone remembers the columns of the basement in the Coliseum,lol.

and the small world thing is your F body beat mine in class, lol

My first Roadster Show was 1963 , when Kennedy was in office.

 

My first one was in the 80's 170 miles down, do the show and 170 miles back with a breakfast stop on the way down and a dinner stop somewhere between Hood river and the Dalles on the way back.
We did it a lot more regular in the 90's and over the years, Usually making a weekend out of it.
One year at the colisium (sp?) I drove the 48 and the battery was dead when we came out and some kind soul jumped it for me. at one of the last ones there I drove my 71 and my Aussie went with me and I parked in the parking garage and he took a good nap , irrigated the bushes when I got back to the truck and we headed to Hood river where we got Burger king for the both of us in a driving rain storm and one of the workers was razzing the other one saying that he knew I had a dog with me because I had ordered a plain burger and bottle of water for Harley.
The last couple of years I went I ended up buying a ticket to the gun show too and I'm not saying what I spent there.
