@jimmy six @lewislynn Hello, When our dad used to take us to the local drive-in restaurant in the Westside of Long Beach, we all got the outside window ledge trays on each of the 4 doors. But, when he took just me, when my brother was away somewhere, the waitresses installed the two inside of the compartment trays. They slid into the window grooves and did not damage the glass. Now, we had a tray in front of us. My dad had to move the bench seat back as he wanted more room from the side window tray. I had plenty of space and it was fun having the food tray right in front of me. The photo is not altered and the seat for the woman is pushed back away from the steering wheel. That was necessary to allow for more room with the tray full of food in front of a person. The blue line is the FLAT arm that slid into the window groove. The red is the TUBULAR arch for the tray to attach and adjust to the customer, left-right, depending on the weight of the food and how much support one wanted. Jnaki We always liked the drive-in food as it was not what we ate regularly, until we were teenagers. Most drive-in restaurants had these trays, along with the normal “outside” trays that hooked into the same window channels. YRMV Note: Sometimes we did encounter a different mode. If and when it was slightly drizzling, the attendants brought out the inside trays for all passengers. The rolled down window allowed the thin, flat bar to be inserted, adjusted and a solid structure. Then the window could be rolled up while the tray stayed on the window/door position. That way, the food on the tray did not get wet from the moisture, slight mist or drizzle. The food tasted just as good and it was now a dry drive-in restaurant experience. During those times, nothing tasted better than a grilled burger, fries and a Cherry Coke. Yes! Note 2: How does that girl/woman stay so slim with the amount of food on that tray? A full size Sloppy Joe burger, PLUS, a full plate of fries and triple decker, Club Sandwich. Let alone a regular Coke AND a full malt or milk shake? YOWZA!
