flynbrian and Moriarity, I couldn't agree more about not strapping the frame. A co-worker of mine was a drag racer and strapped his car down using the frame which I never agreed with. I only suggested the frame because because of Bandit Billys comment about using air bags so the suspension couldn't work. I use the front and rear axle if the front is independent I use the A-arms and have never had a problem even after towing a car a 1000 mi or more. I also don't cross the straps as some do

I need to add one to mine. My truck has a jack on the back for an internal camera. I just haven't bought it yet. It would be nice to know what is going on back there.

Sorry to hijack your thread B

Actually it is different, the trailer is much rougher than the vehicle driving down the road on its own. All the more reason to allow the suspension to work and protect the rest of the car.

Bandit, they make cameras that are remote the camera gets power from splicing into a taillight and the monitor from a 12V plug in the vehicle. Some also have sound. I had one on a 5th wheel and also used one on my car trailer for a while

Why not pay a transporter to haul the roadster home. Leave, sell or haul the trailer empty.

    less stress

Well, that would be an option, but I've gotta get the trailer home anyway. I use it, now and then a buddy needs a trailer and I have a place for it to set while we're home. I've seen too many transport horror stories to trust it just anyone. Not to mention that'd cost as much as 6 months storage here. It's coming home. ;)

    You must be kidding.

I'd trust myself to haul my own car ahead of anyone else any day. Plus having a trailer is one of the great car guy dreams and conveniences, regardless of how little or frequent you use it.

  11. I read through all of this. I was going to add that if you leave the car to drain the carb and fuel tank to avoid a surprise. But as you made the decision to take the car home, that is a moot point. What I will add is an unpleasant fact. As we age, health changes cause us to do different things such as no longer going to Florida. Maybe having all of your stuff in one location will better if something does happen. :)

  13. I have had 3 requests to transport
vehicles from Florida in May this
week alone - turned them all down.

It has already been a hot winter
in Florida - May is on track
    to be brutal ....

If you don't want to trailer it back
then don't - I would leave it in
    secure storage in Florida.

No one will ever do as good a
job as you will do with your own
vehicle when it comes to trailering
it to where it needs to go ....

Sarasota was cooler than normal, and wetter, although we're still behind on rainfall

  17. 75% or more humidity combined
    along with night time temperatures
that stay warm means misery unless
    you have an air conditioned
    motel room ....

    Transporting vehicles doesn't
    pay enough for that ....

Leave it in Florida so you will not have to bring it with you next winter and will have something to drive if you go down during the summer. Build another if you need one up north.

Take it home Brian. A few days of stress, hauling it is worth the many months of worry leaving it behind.
And with it home, it opens up an opportunity to take something different next season.
