so looking at the plug way too fat..., should I go from 45s to 43's, is that enough??? or just go all the way to 41s... when I did the plug test I stayed out of the power valve... ran mid throttle
well. I put 43's she runs pretty good,... need to check timing and do a plug test... she runs real strong... you can putt putt it into 3rd @25 mph and floor it and pull real good ... no ducks or rabbits... so pretty close..
actually, even the parts interchange on those two, where as the china ones don't... and it wouldn't surprise me one bit that both those boxes come from china as does the castings for the carbs... but.... gonna guess none are made in the USA
OT but I have had same issues with Harley CV carbs . China makes a repop at 1/2 price of used and its new . Looks like a million , works like a worn out mule . Jet threads are close but will not interchange , sizes are off by 4 jets sizes large . Save your $$ and brain cells by OEM
No shame, no pride...but a very healthy serving of willful deceit. I should add, the OEMs have been trying to deal with this same thing for many years. Willful deceit and the tolerance of it reaches all levels of society in some countries, if you know what I mean. Makes it very difficult for countries with copyright legislation and laws about 'passing off' do do anything about it (which is what this is.) An interesting youtube reviewer of guitars and related equipment was asked about some key observations after reviewing hundreds of different guitars from well known to obscure brands. His first and biggest one was that virtually 100% of guitars made in China failed to meet stated specifications. That included both the wood and other materials used for construction as well as dimensions. There is a lesson in that for all of us. He did say that a brand that had its own manufacturing tended to be 'better' in this regard than a brand with no factory of its own (i.e. outsourced.)
S'up wit dat 2pc plug? The top one looks good. I'd run it harder for a distance and look at em. Only thing that bugs me is the fuel line. There's a drop below carb level so gravity is working a wee bit against itself.
In most cases cheap will be expensive. I rather buy original and restore them. China lookalikes parts... no thanks. Are Strombergs made in England realy made there or they are also China?
i did it that way to get up hills in forward and not have to back up... never had a problem, but the new carb had a smaller inlet valve so it was starving for fuel, so I took the dip out of the fuel line still starving till I changed the inlet valve... runs good now... lots of power.... I cut the plug open to read it,,, what i see is way too fat still...and needs more timing...
my bet is they are all made in china...china got ahold of stromberg specs and makes there own... my bet is I could go to china, and have them box 2FF power 97 carbs and ship me a container full..
You need to provide the correct answer and not let people speculate, as the OP has done. He is betting on China. People reading who don't know any better may agree or also believe this. So, the truth is...?
The truth is "made in swap meet" old stuff and restore em. Notice I didn't say easy or cheap. You want cheap? Do 94s and hop em up best you can. Way less $$$ and easy to find. Can't wait? England. $pend it...
did you read the thread...???? the thread was about jetting a carb and the jets not to index...no where did I say one was better or worse than the other...no where did I say buy one or the other... so once again,... china carb jets stamped 45 measure 49... china carb jets have different threads than stromberg so you can't rejet them with stromberg jets... where as speedway does use stromberg jets..
Yes, I have read the thread. I was responding to this response you made regarding whether real Strombergs were actually made in England. (Your post #73)
Well, thank you...did you read the plug??? how far outta wack do you think the jets are?? I did drop to 43's But weather has been fowl in vegas so no chop off plug test yet.. throttle response is nice.. plugs say it could use a few more degrees timing... but, more timing means more strain on the 6 volt starter... I'm running the 7 to 1 head with 125 over pistons... it'll chirp the tires rolling in the throttle on take off still has the 65 power valve...but I don't have the balls to run it WOT for long enough to do a test on the power valve...
When you are drilling jets, soldered or not, the original holes are frequently tapered. So you will need a tapered reamer. The taper influences the fuel curve.
Question: How did you run the engine before you pulled the plugs? Did you run it up under load on the highway, then push the clutch in and shut the engine off - roll to the side of the road and pull plugs? If not, then looking at a plug with carbon/soot on it after you've driven the car home, idled it, etc. -- means nothing. Other than it might be a tad rich at idle . . . which is totally common.
