  3. You’re right,,,,a 409 would be right for that time period .

But that sound was more like a 283 or a 327 at about 7500 rpm .
I’d like to think it was a 283 really hopped up !
He was from the Valley,,,,and a cowboy too .
Probably had a good job,,,or maybe his family owned property in the valley and farmed it .

There were some really hot engines in California,,,,probably the best in the nation West of the Mississippi .

There is Nothing like the sound of a small block screaming at the top end !
Oh well,,,,it was a movie,,,,and sound effects,,,but it was really cool to this young kid !

    Period correct could have had a tri-power 406 FE. 405 hp. or 385 with a single 4-bbl.

The 406 fe is what my friend in high school had in his '55 Fairlane with trips from a galaxie with a built FMX shifting , red primer fender well headers not a lifted gasser, black Steelies and L-60' s on the rear it was really fast now its in a barn sitting with a 428 cobra dwindling away No title not for sale. Some people won't let go and my buddy RIP .

Better stay home and let the pros handle it. @BamaMav and @57 Fargo know what they're talking about, and I've got a few million miles dragging a trailer behind me as well. All without ever having a trailer push me.

Functioning trailer brakes are a wonderful thing. Odds are pretty good the brakes on that heavy duty trailer could have easily stop that load going down a 6% grade even if the truck towing it didn't have any brakes.

That trailer is not from the 60s or 70s, modern trailers can actually pretty much stop them selves at the capacity the trailer is rated at, and that trailer isn't any where near its capacity rating (and that would include the weight of the truck pulling it). On modern stuff, you can actually apply the trailer brakes without activating the tow vehicle brakes, unless it was very poorly maintained, that trailer pushing that truck anywhere means the driver was an idiot.

  9. Dude post pics of a couple cars and now we’re worried about a mythical trailer brake issue.

I stand corrected. I wasn't worried about the brakes so much as weight on the rear pair of tires and stability gained from duals. I haven't done a lot of towing, but have had to help change tires on the side of the road on the race team's enclosed stacker trailer. I am perhaps a bit too cautious because that was not fun. We had the right tools, had spares and knew it was gone before it tore things up much. Even lucked out and had a half decent shoulder.

That big trailer with two cars on it being towed by what looks like a half ton picup is the Issue that RodStRace and I both see. It won't take much for that tail to wag the dog and probably shake it like a wet dish rag. The trailer, or the trailer tires aren't the issue, Not enough tow rig to handle that setup is the issue or could be a deadly issue.

In other news, I am still waiting for those Grafitti deuce coupe clone guys to have their own national event where they can compare cow piss yellow and piston gear shift knobs.

That trailer needs Bias-plies and mechanical drum brakes or it's not traditional.

  14. color me surprised that someone else is an expert on this, it’s not a half ton. There is nothing unsafe about it. Stick to what you know.

That set up is way more than capable of hauling that load. I hauled em 1000 miles easily. That pick up pulls em like it don't even know they are back there. Breaks are plenty good.......haulin a load ain't for every one.

If you listen to 2 Lane blacktop at the end when Dennis is tuning the big block and when Falfa's next to Toad they sound the same idling got a healthy lumpy cam. Sweet sound to the ears!

Drop the Merc off at my house, then the HAMB can rest easy, and not worry about your load.....

Always crop the tow pig out of the pic
Never ask for trailer advice here

    I did enough to share.

  24. I've seen it said many times that this kind of crap is why people don't post on the HAMB, I've seen it on my own posts too.

  26. Don't leave us hangin', what's the story on those cars? Real deals? Clones? Yours? You just hauling them? Enquiring minds want to know.

  27. Must be a clone,,,,,the front suspension on the 55 on the trailer was an A frame front end .
The Black Top car had coil overs on front and a tube frame .
