Event Coverage 11TH Annual SWMO Hot Rod Hundred

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by guthriesmith, Mar 30, 2024.

  1. If I didn't already have a fleet, and John Riggs' 2003 F150, I'd have made your missus an offer on that '77. I'm not dent side exclusive, however, as I also really dig the bump sides, too.

  2. Yeah, I really pushed against the late model stuff when we first started hosting these events, but finally caved in to Jimmy's nagging about it.

What got me cranky this year was all the folks who show up to pick up their registration bag, then beeline it to the park so they can turn the event into just another cruise-in. That is NOT what this event is about.

So, in the works for next year is an undisclosed "meal ticket stop and go" somewhere late in the route that the only way to find it is to actually DRIVE the route. If ya show up at the park without your meal ticket, you forfeit your lunches. That should help eliminate the folks who don't understand that the route is NOT OPTIONAL. Since many of the offenders are of the late model persuasion, that should help with thinning out the herd of late model power parkers.

  3. THERE WAS NO COCONUT CREAM PIE. (as far as any of you all know)

  4. I considered tagging along for the after-event pie (that we apparently can't talk about), but needed to get headed back to Oklahoma. I guess I am glad I did since pulling into the driveway at 10:00 Saturday night made for a full day of driving even if I confess that I may or may not have driven a cushy late model pickup (read 30 year old worn out 1 ton flatbed) to get there since I am not fully trusting of the other late model to drive quite that far yet... I figured having two vehicles doubled my chances of actually getting to Springfield and back for the event...

  5. Great idea!

  6. Jeff my 3/4 ton OBS rides like a buckboard wagon so the words "cushy late model" never crossed my mind when you mentioned your 1 ton.

    This explains something we noticed...

I was following a friend in a fairly fresh built 63 Chevy Pickup. As is often the case during a year one shake down, he heard something "clinky" fall off his truck and pulled over, so we did too. We spent probably ten minutes looking over his truck and during that time only one other participant passed by. We thought it was weird, as we were near the front of the pack, but???

This event is all about the drive. Anyone who is not taking the trip, is really missing out.

Seeing this sure makes me miss my hometown! Thank you so much for sharing and so glad to see so many like minded folks come together! The '59 Ranchero with the Desoto grille...very nice.

  9. That '59 Ranchero belongs to Duke and Connie Epperson, from over in Dewey, OK. Fantastic folks!

  10. Yep, and was previously Chris Haggerty’s car in Tulsa that he drove daily.

  11. Oh, and the reason for this pic is because these two cars were on this years t-shirt. Artwork done by B-Scott Studios who was also in attendance with both his brothers. Cars are HAMBers Duncan Cox and @Primered Forever Greg Keeling.

  12. It would have been a cooler, more accurate pic if you would have fork-lifted the nomad on top of the Model A… :p

Hey now! Installing that new top on the A was a pain the butt! Don’t want to do that again! Lol

Andy, read what @guthriesmith wrote, and then consider attending the Saint Louis 100: St. Louis - HOT ROD HUNDRED RELIABILITY RUN in September. That's pretty close to you (geographically). See ya there.

  16. Atch, that looks great!! Much closer too. I just hope it doesn’t interfere with Lloydfest.

    Holding you to it.

  18. You guy's used to do a Arkansas one, still doing it?

  19. Hey Jim, we stopped doing that one a few years ago. We only do SWMO, Wisconsin, Oklahoma and St. Louis now. It takes some coordination to do all the planning, etc. and life happens for some folks to where it can be tough to try to do an event with just a couple folks doing all the work.

  20. Thanks for the pictures @guthriesmith and thanks to @bchrismer and the Crossmembers CC for another great time. Always look forward to this event.

I have wanted to do this one for the past couple of years but the timing never seems to work out.
Really like the secret meal ticket pick up spot idea.

I can't imagine why anyone would skip the 100 mile drive. There are Saturday evening cruises every week but primo events like this are very few and way far in between.
