Ok, before ya slam me . Trying to figure out the year of this engine in my1932 . Been looking in the past files ,but more confused now than before ? By the header the paint is flaking off ! Scared the crap out of me as I just bought it and that was the first thing I looked at ! Casting numbers BO612 behind passengers head on block. Thanks in advance!
In his notes said it had a Mercury Crank in it . As the gentleman that built this passed away . Out of New Smyrna Beach ,Florida as he was a pilot.
Likely just bad paint prep on the block surface and the paint never properly adhered. Not a huge deal to fix, but best done outside the car.
Same setup in my '40 Tudor. mine is a '52 block with offset ground Merc crank for 4.125" stroke and .125 overbore. '48 and earlier type Offenhauser heads, old Mallory dual poit dist. Dave
So you can put earlier heads on a newer block . Sorry ,I'm new to the flatheads always been sbc . Thank You
Yes! I have not done it, but there are lots of people who have. Do a search here and on the Fordbarn. " 59A heads on an 8ba"
Yes , you need to block a passage hole in the passenger side front deck . I’ve got a 3.375 x4 1/8 merc crank , full floaters and 59 style heads . Its an old build that set for 20+ yrs . I’m sure a lot of them were done that way . Now I’d be hard pressed to bore a block that much , no matter the sonic testing wall thickness . I’d like to preserve as much as possible for the next caretaker .
Looks like it is a 1949-53 8BA or Merc block with early style heads, early Ford truck water pumps, Mallory distributor, 49-53 8RT truck oil pan and bellhousing. My 8BA with FENTON headers also had paint flaking that looked similar to yours. The exhaust heat was just too much for even the Bill Hirsch engine enamel. Do some probing with a screwdriver and check it out.
The paint is just flaking off . ThankYou. for info as what you said above has Ford truck water pumps and oil pan as stated in the build sheet but very limited on information as it has a c-4 trans on it
If it doesn’t run hot, use any oil, lose any water, I would not be too concerned about it. (Could just be an adhesion problem with the paint). How about sharing some photos of the whole car ? - Thanks !
