Making the interior for my 32 Ford roadster (Brookville body). There are already a set of interior door handles, around mid-door. Can't figure out what the square shaft (please see photo) is for??? I've looked at a lot of photos of similar hot-rods and there is nothing in that position - do guys just cut that off? I imagine I can put another handle on there, but have no idea what would fit on that square drive shaft and threaded hole. Thanks~
Isn,t that a original inside lock ? Little lever fits on there, i think. See if it turns with a adjustable plier or good fitting spanner. It will just click a little, not really turn.
Could it be that the outside door handle is a reproduction and the shaft is made “long” to accommodate different door thicknesses and a stock handle would be not protruding inside and you would need to cut off the extra “tail”
Mark it flush and cut it off. I had to do the same on my car. Easier to not make a mess by removing it. Then you can make the cut nicer with no rough edges.
For those who haven't been through this, the arrow shows where on the latch that the outside door handle feeds through. And the line shows the excess length that a re-pop door handle shaft needs to be cut.
That handle is the same as a `30 or `31, they had the longer shank , for the inside handle to attach to . If it was a real model"A" version it would have a drilled and taped hole down the center to attach the inside handle to .
Alchemy is correct. The 33 roadster and phaeton's had a longer shank wit h a threaded hole at the end which was used to attach the inside handle. 29-31 Model A roadster and phaeton's had that same feature but shaft was was shorter I believe. 34 roadster and phaeton's had a different outside handle.
