For the past few years the season opener Saturday car show in this area has been the Sunnyside Highschool SR class fundraiser show that helps pay for the "chaperoned" Sr Class trip/party. This is a 100% open run and you see everything from Brass Model T Fords to new Camaros, Mustangs and C8 Corvettes with just bought it stickers on them. The odd thing, not one crap rod on the grounds. I don't know if they have run their course around this area or what not. The HAMB friendly cars weren't in abundance but the ones that were although a couple of them were stone stock were very nice or very cool cars including one belonging to a HAMB member who doesn't post on the board but buys and sells in the classifieds a bunch.
The 49 Chevy pickup was pretty rough and looked like it had been rescued from a hard life on a local farm. I should have talked to the folks with it but believe that it belongs to the young gent sitting behind the wheel who may or may not be of driving age and might attend school in Sunnyside. I haven't seen the 56 Merc before but it was a pretty nice ride. The GMC with the bed that you usually see on trucks pulling trailers in this area was well done and a tad different. The V12 Jag powered A sedan is a well built rod that fools you a bit at a distance. Wish I had taken more than one photo of it. A rack of Weber carbs and many hours of polishing aluminum on that engine. Broke one of my long standing rules on the red 40 as normally if you have props hanging on your car I don't take photos of it same with show boards at one day outdoor shows.
The 34 coupe was pure hot rod, the turquoise Crown Vic was seriously nice and the glass top Vic was really nifty end to end. First time I have seen that one. Small block Ford, Very nice but simple upholstery done by a gent in Eugene Oregon a few years back, When the Hamb friendly cars are few and far between the cool ones get more photos. The graffiti clone 32 didn't have the piston gear shift knob. That will cost some points at the Graffiti coupe clone nationals.
This the one that belongs to the Hamber. He said that the car came out of somewhere down south years ago, spent a few years in Ellensberg, Wa, spent some time in the Tri-Cities of Washington and now resides in his garage after a 11 year quest to buy it. Figured out where I had seen it before, It showed up at the Billetproof drags at Ravendale in 2019. The Black 56 Wagon built by Rocket's hot rod Garage a few years ago was out hiding in plain sight. The car is so well designed that a lot of people don't know that it is a full custom build of the highest degree. I'm thinking that the red coupe is the Buick (34 I believe) that runs a nailhead and belonged to the local Chevy dealer for decades. The black and cream A is a well traveled hot rod that those who go to Bonneville and the Nugget show probably have seen a few times. The 56 Victoria with what looks to be original paint belongs to a rodder friend of mine who used to have a nifty 32 Five window but sold it and now has this 56 as his more practical cruiser. The car shows what real patina is and it isn't pealing paint and rust. Just gently worn but well cared for nice paint. I got to ride out of the show back to my truck in it and it has a sweet running Y block in it and those seats are comfy. You wonder about the young guys being interested in the car scene at all, This young gent was pushing his lowrider bicycle loaded with his show display from his dad's lowrider truck to the bicycle show area making the full effort, That's it, I took something like 288 photos but these are all I can show here or will because of too much clutter in front or around a couple of them.
In all honesty I don't believe he ever considered building it to be ridden. He was having a rough time pushing it on the grass.
You don't ride those lowrider bicycles. Some might be rideable, but most aren't. My buddy has one that matches his 57 Chevy, he takes it to shows when he shows the car. It's a bitch to move around. It won't turn, and the pedals hit the ground. It's easier to just carry it.
Thanls for the pics, they’re great! By the way that Merc is a ‘55. In ‘56 the bumper had a “breast reduction”. LOL
Thank You Mr48chev. The detailed views you shared make for more interest. My Uncle had that white Cameo, which I rode 60 bed miles new, and learned stick on, later. The thread, on here, about the 55 Vic SW, made me a little jealous, Then. A '56 Crown Vic always.
As I told the lady with one truck that I took a bunch of photos of (OT stuff on truck so it isn't here) most cars get one photo, the ones I like get a lot of photos. I knew I had seen the 32 before but it took a while to remember where. I'm hoping the owner spots the thread and tells us a bit of it's history as he knows it. I have a thing for Cameos and big window 55/57 trucks but have never owned one. The wagon is an exercise in perfection and if it were lined up with Tom's coral and Black Vicky and the two crown Vics in the show many would argue that Ford sold them that way originally. It's fun to just sit back and watch people discuss it and one of those cars you would like to have some recorders around to record what folks say about it. My smugmug album is here and it has a ton of OT stuff in it even though I probably didn't take a photo of over 100 cars in the show at all. https://robertdavison.smugmug.com/2024-Sunnyside-high-school-car-show The lowrider brigade was out in force including one club that only owns Impalas.
