jeepsterhemi I enjoy your postings of city & rural Canada, growing up in the N.E. it is very similar to what I experienced. It's great to see what it was like, both the vehicles & people. Great stuff ! Thanks.
Hello, That is a great very early photo of Main Street leading into PCH right at the base of the Huntington Beach Pier. Our time was one for the books and is always a point of the great time had by all, great surf, great food, music venues and the folks that made up the surfing community. But, the background surrounding the whole area was bound to change. It is/was not all good. In 1963-64, nice looking 4 door sedans were also a part of the local Huntington Beach surf scene. The photo shows several teens across the street from the world famous, Golden Bear Restaurant and entertainment center that show cased the hottest rock bands of the time, on their So Cal touring events. This parking spot was one of the most sought after places as it allowed a ringside seat/unobstructed view to the waves on the South side of the Pier and beach below. Old homes and old buildings were not torn down and gargantuan buildings being the main attraction. those old historic buildings were repurposed as small businesses that fit with the current climate and city structure. The spot, shown on the old photo. In past HAMB posts, there were surf shots taken during this time of the early 60s. Yes, not everything stays the same. But, if one did not go on PCH for 5 years or so, the huge structures are now the replacement stuctures of the quaint little surf town in the middle of the vast OC beach scene. Jnaki Yes, future projects brought tons of money to the city coffers, but try to drive through PCH on any day of the week and it is pretty much impossible to flow smoothly. Stop after stop light is the city’s way to have folks enjoy? The city beaches and views??? PCH was once a nice drive down the coast in our teenage/20 something hot rods on short trips or long road trips to southerly adventures beyond the OC. But, these days, it is not as pleasurable as it was and it is sometimes better to zip past that area in the inland roads and streets. Note: These days, it is not a pleasant drive in any way possible.
