Projects 1961 Chevy impala bubble top 1/4 panels. Any options?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by 31Vicky with a hemi, Apr 30, 2024.

  1. 61 Impala bubble top needs a right 1/4 and outer 1/2 of wheel house from accident damage.
    Are there any options available?

    You gotta mix 60 and 62 stuff to get a 61. 62 ¼ with a 60 wheel opening. Sux...

  4. Start calling yards in the dry SW and see if anyone has a decent one they can cut off. Then start drilling spot welds...
    Won't be cheap.

The 60 wheel opening is the same as 61, but 62 is different. 62 has the same feature below the very top body line and down to the rocker. The best way is southern/western used panels. They're out there, logistics of getting something sux, no oriental imports exist. The latter isn't hard to believe, imagine what a repro would look like given the unique features of a 61. I think you can use any 2dr ¼ panel sectioned right. How about a pic?

  7. A good 61,
    The wrecked 61 that needs a 1/4
    And a couple 62 impalas.
Hummm. I’m not seeing it, unless there’s a different 62?

yup, easiest to see on a biscayne with no trim, the 62 quarter doesn't have that feature that the impala trim follows at the rear of the quarter for one..... I think you are stuck looking for a used one in a southern salvage yard

  9. Been trying to find something,
Might have to just make it.
But I need a car to copy,

  10. Well, the 'good' news is it looks like a 4-dr quarter would work, so that opens a few more options. Judging by the tear right above the wheel, it may have already been repaired with one in the past. You may have to settle for a less-than-pristine rusty one and do rust repair. But as bad as it's smeared behind the wheel opening, you definitely need a replacement.

It may be just as cheap to buy a rusty 'project' car as trying to scratch-build a new quarter.

Keep your eyes peeled for a 61 SS four door, don't cut it up they're rare as chicken lips.

Give Todd a call at https://www.allamericanclassics.com/
He's been stockpiling Chevy parts for many years.
They are just across the Columbia river in Vancouver Washington.
