I got mine cloth covered 5/8" fuel from ThrottleAddiction.com (motorcycle source). They are out of stock with no timeline when it will be back in. Looking on line, I can't seem to find it. What I'm seeing listed is metric. Anyone know of source?
Have you tried equipment dealers? Tractors and fork lifts used it. Metric would work. You just need to do a bit of math.
That was my next search. You're right, metric will work, but I've found metric hose fit to be a bit off when getting it close to the SAE size.

15.875 mm is 5/8" metric conversion. So 15 mm would be tight and 16mm would be loose but both are achievable to make fit on a decent fitting.

WHAT..are you feeding a 5/8" line full of gasoline ? That would be about 800 cubic inches at 9000 rpm...right ? Mike

Interesting. I didn't know that. For years, I've bought it from the motorcycle supplier for years and that's how they've identified and I've purchased it by the O/D. I'll measure the I/D in bit.
Damn, fellas. Thank you for the education. Turns out I've been referring to fuel line size incorrectly for years. Would you believe that by shear luck I actually ordered the correct hose yesterday, BUT I was worried I had made a mistake. The O/D is for sure 5/8", but the I/D is .316-ish which is 5/16" fuel line. I found a 32' ft roll of 5/16" clothed covered line at Tired Iron Tractor Parts for $27.00 and ordered it up. I was second guessing myself in thinking I had ordered incorrectly. How's that for dumb luck? All good and thank you for the education. Guys tend to measure things differently by how they learn from the get go. When I was in Vietnam with A-1/9 Cav as a scout observer my side task was taking care of our platoon's generators so we could have lights in our hooches. Sent my helper for a 3/8 x 1-1/2 bolt and he came back with a small machine screw that took a 3/8 wrench because the head maintenance dude said that was how you measure bolts by the wrench size and we went a couple of rounds over that one.
That looks like the type of hose used on old VW bugs. They also used it from the master cylinder up to the reservoir. Bad thing about it is you can't tell when it starts cracking as all rubber lines do. Guess if you replaced it every year it would be OK.
Thinking about it, my 2450 Bayliner has 5/8 fuel line as the vent hose from the tank to the little chrome vent outlet on the stern. Plus it may be covered as an abrasion resistant feature.

Ducbsa, Thanks for posting. Seems like the person you spoke to either got the part number wrong or doesn't know what they are talking about. My fittings are machined for 5/16" hose and this hose slipped on without issue. It measured out at .309" which is a lot closer to .315" (5/16") than .250" (1/4").
Thanks for the tip. I ordered a roll to have on the shelf. The European stuff that matched was a lot more expensive when I was buying it.
