Hello, An inspiring photo of one of the fastest Corvettes at the So Cal dragstrips. Rich Siroonian/John Mazmanian/ Bones Balough ruled the sporty car classes with this creation. In a 24-coat Candy Persimmon red paint job that drew everyone's eyes and made them pay attention, along with the outstanding sounds... “by 1962 Mazmanian's Corvette was a supercharged, 600+ horsepower beast of a drag racing machine, replete with hacked up rear fenders to provide room for the big racing slicks and a parachute to slow it down from the low 11-second passes it was regularly dishing out at the time.” An interesting description of this record setting Corvette. The stance, pure power, the records prove it to be so. But, the different touches in design? Jnaki As inspiring and detailed as it was, what the heck is that rear wheel opening doing on such a nice, fast, racy looking Corvette? The smooth lines of the original Corvette modified to fit the big slicks, but what? Missing a circular wheel opening pattern or cutter? A late night adventure with a jig saw to create such a large opening? What???? As it were, it still was a record setting Corvette and while still in high school, it made us take notice of what could be done for the fastest car on the street, ever! Perhaps not 600 hp, but enough to rule the streets with some attitude. (maybe a 292 SBC with a 671 pulled out of a 40 Willys Coupe would do the job of power of sorts…) Even parked in front of our high school location in those coveted parking spots, would have drawn the attention of all those that “walked on by…” But, at least a nicely designed and executed circular pattern and opening for larger slicks or street tires. No parachute required... A smooth, circular rear wheel opening certainly does the better job of styling and function, slicks or no slicks… YRMV A custom teenage missile, for all purposes...
I’m sorry sir but I’m going to have to impound this vehicle on account of you failed to pay the correct amount for the meter.
