I think the whole thing is a day dream/ bench racing sequence so it’s more “hey wouldn’t this be cool!” But ya know, with dancing lol

And if most people understood the lyrics to that song it probably would of never been played on the radio.

And negatory on the “build” of this mow-chine there Red Ryder.

Wasn’t that GM’s doing of the reality of what it may have turned out looking like?

I understand Johnny had it built, but it does not survive. Unknown if GM helped.
His last song to make the top 100.

That’s what some Country DJ’s have said.

Just found this which explains why your photo show’s the car not being solid black as I know it to be.

“In 1976, Cash’s team hired a Nashville auto shop to construct a frankensteined Cadillac Coupe DeVille to promote the song, but it was ultimately destroyed the following year. In 1977, an Oklahoma car collector named Bill Patch constructed his own “One Piece at a Time” DeVille from salvaged parts, but this time as a gift to Johnny Cash himself.”

I think of B52s singing the line (OT alert) "I like your Chevy Duster"

As for the Brooks & Dunn song, y'all are failing to remember there was a "GTO" based on the Pontiac Ventura (Nova) platform. Pretty sure that's a leaf spring car.

And "Greased Lightning" isn't supposed to be correct. It's being sung by an idiot that knows nothing about cars. He's just repeating things he's heard. That's the point of the song. He's showing off his vast (really, limited) "knowledge" of hot rods. A braggard. A blowhard. The song was written perfectly to portray this.

Maybe a "Chevy Duster" is really a Chevy duster. Like a Ford that "dusts" Chevys? Far-fetched, I know, but maybe what the writer was going for.
