My 68 Vette that I got while I was in high school. It was then, and still is my dream car. Yeah, and I still have it after 50 plus years.
That’s a great lookn’ Vette Ron. That last picture! Talk about meats hangn’ out! What engine are you running?
Thanks { bowie } It has the 327 - 350 hp L79 with 4 speed trans in it. I added the L88 hood, side pipes, and Ansen sprints 15''x15'' rear and 15''x10''fronts not too long after I got it.
Yes I married the girl in the beach photos. She was 16 when we got married. We took the Vette to Datona beach, and Disney world on our honeymoon. Yes we're still married, and I Love them both even more now.
Several years ago bought a 69 350/350 to hot rod but soon realized it was too stock to mess up so i sold it to concentrate on the 57. Yours is the perfect example of how vettes should be treated.
I'll add a little story. This was 1975 on our honeymoon to Datona Beach. We pulled into the speedway entry. It was nothing then like it is now days. { notice the primitive old main sign } I didn't see anyone, and the gate to the tunnel was open. So I told { Jackie } my new wife to stand on the passenger seat, and to make a movie with our little 8mm camera. I then drove down the tunnel, and did a lap around the track. No one stopped us, and we had a blast.
My college roommate has a 70 Lt1 with 23,000 original it's steel cities gray with rallyes and 4 speed it's a shame it just sits in his garage it's has a couple of Bloomington gold wins from way back when .I think the only non original parts are valve cover gaskets! It's mint.he actually bought it from a guy I work with he was telling me about his old Vette and I said my buddys got a same car like that and he asked his name a sho nuff same car. 2° separation .
I grew up in a 70 LT1 4-speed car that my dad used for his daily driver. My brother and I would slide in the back behind the seats when we rode with my folks. I remember when he replaced the 70 with a 65 later that we had more room in.
Great read! Love that you are still with the same two girls! Love the story about the Daytona speedway...today, you'd be on the news, arrested, and car impounded.
I had a hotted up 74 my senior year. Loved that car, and I'd love to have another. Would prefer an earlier chrome bumper C3, though. Nothing like driving a C3 with that long hood and fender humps out in front of you, t-tops out, Sabbath in the 8 track. Felt like driving a missile.
Hope you don't mind me adding a couple C3s to your thread. First is mom's '74 before and after Blackcherry with fiberglass '82 bumpers, the other is a '69 427 Vette that a friend of my dad's picked up. The '69 came to my dad for a paint job starting out White with mint green flame job, my dad body worked it and painted it Brandywine. The guy had someone do a cheap two-tone to the brandywine which peeled off in sheets. The paint job in the picture was done at a body shop I worked in during high school. I helped as I learned from a pro custom/resto/pinstriper guy. The guy in the picture had a seperate resto shop in the same building and went on to work at a hotrod shop in Colorado.
RC57 no I don't mind. I wish I would have said in the title to post all your OT Vettes here. Your C- 3's photos are very COOL! Thanks for sharing.
Some before and after pictures. Unlike Ron though, the car is long gone, stolen decades ago. The good news is I still have the blond 45 years later.
In high school there was a girl who drove a white 71 454 4spd, all the guys wanted to date her to just drive the "vette". Nobody ever got to drive it, her dad had given her some very strict rules about the car. Every time I see a white vette I think of that blond and that big block 4 spd you couldn't touch. My neighbor has a killer 68 Maco shark that he's owned since the 70's
I'll add some more OT pictures to my story. I met my girlfriend, and future wife on her 16th birthday. We fell in love with each other, and couldn't stand to be apart. So we got married. She was still 16, and in high school, and wanted her 1st car. We were both car crazy. So she picked out this SS 396-375 HP 4 speed Camaro. Now we had three cars her Camaro, my Vette, and my old 38 Chevy coupe. Life was fun.
I remember this car! It got some magazine ink right.....maybe one of the custom paint special additions?
