    Hello DV,

Nice memory and I can taste that tomato potion now in our homemade chili recipe. But, those carriers that took the tomatoes in the white trailers along Highway 5 through Central California were slow and damaging. The big question was why didn’t the tomatoes at the bottom of those containers get squashed all of the time in those overpacked trailers being towed North? The drips prove some of them don’t make it to the factory, whole…

The better question was how fast does it take to overtake those plodding trucks and over packed trailers? A sure footed, floor pinned, throttle instantly got us by after the first time we were stuck behind one. But, we had to stop at the nearest city to get to a spray wash area so we could get all of the little blotches of tomato juice and particles off of our hood/windshield and roof, let alone all over our front bumper/grille. Those guys seemed to fill the white trailers full and then some in a peak, which normally would roll down and out when moving forward. Pity us that got caught behind our first encounter with the tomato express wagons heading north.

So, in one hand, tomatoes are one of our favorites and yes, those get squashed to fit in a can. But, enclosed trailers would surely make it more safe for all of us unsuspecting drivers on our California highways and byways.

The same could be said for pool cleaners with their acid baskets hanging off the back of a truck, dripping liquid all over the place and onto our nice paint jobs. Ever have a few sprinkles of pool acid on your hood? Paint is gone forever and hard to match the zillion little drops that made dinky holes in the paint. Boooo !!!

Now, for the rest of last night’s homemade chili concoction for tonight’s dinner… can’t wait… yummy YRMV

Thanks for a great old high school history..."one for the books..." (pun intended)

Never seen a photo of a race car under cover in transit to a race. Model T Ford powered it looks like a well built car. Bob [IMG]

The owner is Bo Amos (pictured on the right) and the lady driving the tow car is his wife.
