Nice way to check spring rates. I've done it this way myself. BTW, I have this identical Craftsman drill press which I still use. I got it from an old farm building that was being torn down. All rusted up I sand blasted and repainted it to look like new and replaced the motor as well. It's built better than most of what's out there for sale new today.
