For the last two weeks I've returned home from the Sunday Swap Meet with a Radiator Level, never knew they existed or had a need for one. Were radiator sales in a slump and level production keep the Douglas /Solder Seal company afloat?

Kid, I'm wondering if that is for a house radiator. Steam type, I'm not sure but the steam condenses and has to return to the boiler so I think they are set at an angle so the water drains. Maybe an old time plumber can chime in on this theory.

Good possibility, even if not in a slump and the company had the means to expand production into other areas ..... Why not?

Thanks Pat! I looked for you at Rhinebeck but the landmark trailer wasn't there this year.

Just tossing it out there .... The water heater in my first house was made by the Edison electric company.
This was in the 1990's .... The tank was at least 50 years old at this time and worked perfect .... for a few years.
What eventually happened the voltage was controlled by a voltage regulator like on a car.
The points started sticking on it and it would run too long and over heat.
The pop off valve would open up and flood the ba*****t .... then the points would un-stick and work normal for a few weeks ..... after 3 times of this happening .... I tried to do what I could and file the points etc ..... they were just worn out.

Try finding replacement parts for a Edison electric water heater ..... just not available.
So I replaced it with a modern tank that probably wore out in less then 10 years.

A lot of companies branched out into other fields. ..... like Edison electric into plumbing.

On a home heating , one pipe steam system, the radiator is always tilted towards the supply.

Steam radiator level. One pipe system. I think only us old guys remember those cast iron low pressure steam heat systems. Great heat and kept the humidity up too so your furniture wouldn't dry out and crack. The only down side was those clattering, banging worn out shutoff valves.

So that's what that little level(that doesn't read correctly) is.
    Thanks. :) .

  9. So all my life I've been building stuff with "radiator levels"! No wonder all my carpentry projects look like they are leaning....they are!!!

I was there the trailer was not. My tow vehicle (97 Suburban) failed inspection, rotted out ch***is and the 79 Chevy PU I bought isn't ready yet. I got to see a lot of stuff though since I didn't have the stuff to sell. I do miss the sausage and peppers though.
