Technical SBC HEADERS

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by alphabet soup, May 9, 2024.

  1. I got these headers with some other stuff on Saturday. I thought they might fit my uncles '32 if he ever goes back to a Chevy. However, the left header is different. They seem to be a pair, as they are both stamped 1607, R+L. I couldn't find any info on the net or in any of the older catalogs I have. Anyone know? 20240508_184123.jpg

  2. My best guess is that the driver side kicks around a frame mounted master cylinder and then points straight back and you can run the pipes accordingly for the application.

They are similar to a 55-65 chevy truck header by Hedman, there's also a corvette header that's built the same.

The hedman truck headers kick down at the back. To clear the crossmember under the bellhousing.

The stock crossmember structure will for sure determine the actual fit, compared to more modern round tube frame crossmembers and bracing which is how my 32 ch***is is built.
These are my S&S headers, I believe the application callout was 28-34, no mention of any differential fit as to ch***is layout.

The left side resembles the header that Hedman used to make for a sbc in a ‘58-‘64 X frame Chevy. I have no idea why the other side doesn’t kick out. The flanges at the head don’t look like old Hedman and it’s strange that there are no 3 bolt flanges on the collectors.

I thought of you Bob , figured you had the most commercial experience on this.
I think this is an application where the brand options have diminished, but a little creativity can open up the possibilities.
S&S headers are no longer in business but as an example those I posted above are the ones I used on my 67 Nova, I think they closed up not long after I bought my second set, it took some cutting, fitting, twisting, retubing and welding but they fit perfectly.
    Only photo I could find.

With no collector flange I'm thinking some time of race version.

Thats what I’m thinking. Some kind of modified or late model maybe. The left side may be kicked out to blow the exhaust away from the driver.

The flanges and collectors look like Schoenfeld. Their Dirt Modified headers have one side straight back and one side kicked out. The part numbers don’t jive though. I’d call them. They’ve been around for a long time, they might recognize the part numbers.

Struck me as very much like Schoenfeld as well. nothing matched the current catalog though.

Maybe an older Sprint Car or Modified design

  14. Thanks for all the replies!
Still looking, but sprint car headers sounds like the best guess. Gene.
