That Camaro was once a fast Modified/Production race car.

Sorry, I should have been more clear. I was just speaking in general....that there has to be a ton of street freaks out there sitting in garages waiting to be found.

But that is so cool, I never knew of the Rapid Transfer Cars!

Joe Oldham's original Motion '69 Camaro Phase III, with 427( aluminum I believe!). Stolen and never recovered, but his son built him a tribute car!

A Bob Hegge feature from Speed & Custom June '66( My birthday!) of a 327 powered Bugeye Sprite! I love these earlier street freaks that were just hot cars or street racers! When Spence Murray was editor of Rod & Custom, he had Dave Puhl restyle both a brand new Javelin AND a new AMX. Meanwhile, Marty Schorr and company at High Performance Cars magazine took a new 390 Javelin and aside from super tuning thru factory available parts, added Corvette side pipes and AMX grille and hood, creating a subtle street machine! Both RnC AMC cars were destroyed, allegedly in separate freak accidents, although I wouldn't rule out them being crushed for liability. No idea if Schorr's old Javelin survived, but wouldn't it look good at MCACN?!

Maybe some of you MN guys have pics, as I don't on this PC, but there are a pair of these that have been running around the Twin Cities since at least the early 90's. A 67ish GTO and a similar year Galaxy/Fairlane. One has a tunnel ram and the other has a big roots blower. They were at Street Machine Nats last year, and I remember them from the Porky's to Wards days on University.

I think this would be a cool place for everyone to post their stories of the Street Freaks of the 70's! As we have learned from the craze of the interviews that were happening in the early 2000s of people from the early tradional hot rod days, the street freak crowds need to be interviewed. Or else all those stories will be lost to time, too!

No, I don't really hate Mustangs. I love cars too much to dislike such a contributor to the high performance world. Sometimes I poke fun, lol.
    Here's one that's a little freaky.
My good pal in HS had a '67 'vert, 289/4sp 'Flake green, air shocks and Keystones. Good times. Just learned he passed last year.

  21. Oh YEA! I love this stuff.:) I was a teen when street freaks ruled the street and demanded attention. So I built one, a 69 Nova, air shocks, n-50 tires, cragar SS wheels, 671 blower and a loud obnoxious exhaust that got me pulled over a lot buy officer friendly who was not .:(

I remember since the 80s after Back to the 50s during the day, University was loaded with cars of all eras. It was wild for years. From street rods, street machines, to pro-street, freaks....they were all there. Wards parking lot was quite a hotspot!

It was like that most weekends. Lots of crazy stuff. The time the FD watered down the street to prevent burnouts in front of Porky's backfired miserably when everything could spin the tires in the wet!
