And you wonder why people my age don't take our cars to shows....

  1. Liv from Gnarly Speed Shop took her barn fresh and freshly engine swapped 56 Chevy to a cruise put mics and cameras on it and recorded brilliance....

  2. Kinda reminds of a tri-5 Chev those screwballs on Roadkill built. ‘Cept this one is more mechanically sound.

Surprising know one new what the engine was. I hate them but I know one when I see it.
The double pumper was funny also. I guess he has never saw EFI.

That microphone idea is great, I'm going to do it at the next car show I take a car to. Should be fun.

I just ran across that last night. surprised at the wrong guesses on what motor it is from old farts.
old farts should know all the older motors.
kinda looks like a big block Mopar, but to me it looks like it should be in another car.

comments interesting - Roadkill quality - but, at least she is learning what works and what doesn’t

  10. Well, here's my take. I think it's pretty cool that a lovely young lady like her is interested in the car and learning all she can about it. If I were 40 years younger, OK maybe 50 years younger.......:D

Like someone would say...I'd drive it.

All I can say is that it is somewhat cool that the young lady is ok driving that thing. I would rather have just a SBC or something, but otherwise, it could be a fun car that I would care less what people at a car show thought. It does amaze me how few people knew what it was considering how common that is even if I don't like them... Just needs a hood to cover up that motor. :D

I was just as amazed that they didn't know what the Kellison was although probably shouldn't have been.

I’ve no idea what the engine is, but two things.
First both those tri-5’s sounded healthy.
And I’d bet she/he knew the type of reactions it would get and wanted to do the video for that reason.
Otherwise it would have never been “put out there”.
I’d have fixed the transmission leak and went to the next show though;)

When I saw the Kellison my first thought was Cheetah, but then I figured the shape wasn’t right, and there were too few of them for someone to do that to one.

    More like 15...
Still not sure what that had to do with a certain demography, not bringing their cars to shows...

Maybe you should think out of the box?
Question should be "So does your mom like cars too?"
Apples don't fall far from the tree.

  23. I watched that when it first aired, I've got to say that I thought California "car people" were smarter, since it's the "birth place" of hot rodding and all.
She's an LS person, almost all her videos are about LS swapped vehicles and to be honest neither seem to be to knowledgeable about the basics.
Some people compared it to the Roadkill 56 but there's no way that the video content is comparable, the Roadkill is much better.

  24. People look at rat rods for the same reason they rubberneck at car accidents...

And the car is a POS anyway. Broken glass that would get you a ticket most places, 'stinky interior' (mildew, rodent droppings, health issues), exhaust leaking through the floor (health and safety) and self-described 'sketchy brakes'.

Back in the day, one purpose of shows and clubs was to get rolling wrecks like these off the roads. Maybe a 'safety tech' to enter shows should come back...

  25. My only takeaway is the guy leaning on the fender is really asking for it

I guess it's the least LS looking LS I've seen before, so it doesn't offend me as much as most LS swaps do.
I personally like to see cars like this if the plan is to improve it and enjoy it as you move forward. I've seen a few at cars shows gradually progress as owners continued to improve them. But I'm generally not a fan if they leave them looking junky with no plan to make them better. I think it's got potential, but we'll see if anything gets done.

    "Mouth breathers"!

  28. Honestly, I don't care what the people at a car show think about my old beater, I don't solicit comments but if ask any questions I do answer them in the manor they are ask.

I learned a long time ago that when a guy that obviously ain't a hot rodder is walking with his girlfriend always talks her through the car or truck they are viewing, he knows everything about the car, for instance my '32 sedan is actually
a Model A. not to mention it's a rat rod!

I just ignore the negative comments and smile when I hear the positive, I love my car! HRP

Maybe sit somewhere out of sight where you can hear the comments, then have a small speaker that you can talk back to them.........like it's the car talking.:)

My youngest daughter got married a few weeks ago, the grooms father is from Georgia, nice guy, enjoyable to converse with. We got on cars and he has had some hot rod style cars so I showed him a picture of my roadster and his comment was "nice rat rod":) I cringed, I guess everyone has their own idea what a "rat rod" looks like:(
