worked on the fan shroud today.after removing the fan shroud i noticed id loosened some paint from the fins getting it out.its a tight squeeze.after removing the front hood latch catch and the top hose it came away ok.so today i removed the bolts holding the fan and set about replacing them with smaller fasteners.and rivets.i placed some cardboard behind the rad to protect it.havnt got it out yet . there is 6 m5 stainless bolts either side holding the shroud and spacers in place.i used m5 studs on top to locate the shroud until i could get a locknut on .all the bolts fitted in ok.plan is to locktite studs at the bottom as well. then with the nuts loose ill be able to pull it out at top and remove the cardboard.improving the plan as i go.only issue i have now is a 15 mm gap between rad and shroud along the top.three thickness of foam tape should seal this up and steady it up thats the plan ill see whats available.good news is the anode is in very good condition no erosion on it at all. upload_2024-4-20_23-11-58.jpeg .when i made this shroud i tried 2mm but it was light so i added anouther layer of 2mm around the fan.it stiffened it up a lot.maybe next year i will make another similar only folding the edges etc etc now that i know what fits what it will be easier.needs an expansion bottle as well.i ordered a curved vane fan but i got a straight one vender offered $100 dollars cash back so i accepted so not complaining now.kept the fan nearer the top of the rad where the hotter water is.also kept the spal motor above and away from the waterpump pulley

Yo Chris! I haven’t been around for awhile, but have been getting back at it. You’re doing some fancy work here, looking good! Hope is well over there across the pond.

ok so a holley manual operated ckoke will fit on a demon carb after all with small mods.it went on easy after with the help of master machinest mick.i had been doing a little research on the subject.i read some where it would need to be spaced out by 1/4 inch this proved to be the case.mick measured up with his verniers and said we would try 3/8.after mounting with 3/8 spacers he declared we had 1/8 to spare and machined 1/8 off.they fitted perfect of course they did.there was a choice of 3 brackets to hold the cable and 2 arms one cranked to operate the choke. we used the cranked arm and the curved type bracket to hold the cable it bolted to the top of the vacuum cover.the bracket was high so mick machined the top of the curved cover for a flat mounting surface.everything lined up great.all the screw were the same thread 8-32.(edit) we had 6 in total 3 that came with the kit but they were too short with the spacers ,however the 3 we removed from the electric choke were longer and fitted fine the 3 screws for the kit were cut and used to hold the cable mounting bracket..no waste here.the vacuum unit came off easy but we couldnt tighten 1 screw to replace it.drilling a hole in the bracket allowed clearance for an allen key to pass through.the video i posted earlier was a great help and we looked a few times to be sure to be sure .overall im really happy with how it turned out.now im looking for another diaphram for the vacuum secondaries,.need to find one soon because of the time lag between ordering and the parts arriving .now just need to find the serial numbers so i can order the correct parts
been busy in the shop as well.fitted up an extra 8ft of worktop and plenty double sockets as well.
placed an order on amazon for a new gates rad hose gates 20225 will do it.ordered a valve spring compressor and some tools to finish the job.nearly there .tidy down the new bench.should be ready to start rebuilding next week.roll on the summer.
im not too impressed with the blue /red fittings on the fuel line .but it doesnt leak and its not visible with the air filter back on.the choke when pulled on will raise the idle a little .that will be a real novelty in the colder weather

Need something like this #135-4 holley vacuum secondary diaphragm.piddled about today fixing random bits on the bench so i could put them away.then went researching the parts i needed on the computer.carb is an early model with no serial numbers or model numbers i only threw out the box last week so no numbers on the box either.spent an hour on ebay i confirmed it is a road demon 625 cfm VS.traded pictures with a tech assistant on jegs site.he contacted holley.matt got back to me .holley said i needed holley #135-4.jegs have it in stock $16 . great stuff.
https://www.jegs.com/i/Holley/510/135-4/10002/-1 .another piece of the puzzle located.

holley #135-4 arrived and is the correct part.fitted excellent.tested it was holding vacuum all is good.the vacuum pod and choke assembly are competing for space the front screws on the vacuum pod need to be installed in the housing before fitting.kept the allen head screws on the pod they are out of sight and havnt rusted since new. choke bolted up with the 1/4 spacers and looks like it will work.got another choke cable black this time with a black knob.will need to sort out a mounting bracket too.that can wait for a while got more important work to do.the new stainless 8-32 screws are fitting great .m4 stainless lockwashers and washers are in stock and fit perfectly

stop press. something is incorrect with the fast idle adjustment.the screw is fitted incorrectly through the bracket from the wrong side so take it apart and redo.not a big deal know it off by heart by now..if the holley instructions were any good wouldnt have had any issues.found a much better video . .much better lighting and clearer instructions

I knew I liked you Chris, you’re just like me, have to do it twice! “We do it nice because we do it twice!” By the way, did I read that you’re a carpenter?

mission accomplished. pod is holding vacuum. there were some complications with the incorrectly fitted screw .the inner bracket on the throttle shaft got bent a little i eventually straightened it out but a tricky job due to its shape.reversed the screw and bent the bracket a tad so the adjusting screw ran centre in the high idle cam.3 snags left to do ,1 ideally the choke rod would have a R clip holding it on there is a circlip holding it in place. its a pain to remove and hard to access.a little tip when you get the rod into the choke assembly stuff in behind it with tissue to keep it there until u get a splitpin or R clip on to locate it.
2 i have 3 1 3/4 screws holding the choke assembly in place with a lock washer under head.there is another 1/8 thread available so i need to cut 2 inch screws to 1 7/8 to maximize the threads available.
3 the c clip on the vacuum post isnt a fantastic fit so a trip to the engineering supplies shop is called for .ill bring the carb for a perfect fit.
a bit of trial and error but dont need instructions now there in my head
