What Super Stock morphed into….we had local hero Wally Booth, Gapp and Roush to root for…when all the Factory’s were represented….great times for Drag Racing in the USA

Just like NASCAR it was great to be a mopar guy, then it stunk!
After Jenkins brought out the Vega, it really was a lost cause. That did bring out the wildest outlaw cars to date, though.

Ronnie Sox said the Lenco killed prostock. When they were running the 4 speeds Chrysler had a slight edge. When they went to the lenco he lost that slight edge. Then the weight breaks, all down hill.

Yeah, the good days. Dyno Don, Da Grump, Dandy **** Landy, Mr four speed Ronnie Sox, the Professor Warren Johnson, seemed like the better ones all had a nickname that they were known by better than there name. I was a Ford fan, so Dyno Don and Bob Glidden carried the torch for me, but I also liked Grumpy in the Chevys and those MoPar guys, Sox and Martin and **** Landy. Still love to find old race footage and see action that we only got to see in mostly black and white pics in the mags.

Grumpy's Toy IX, with the early Vega front, is probably my all-time favourite Pro-Stock car.

I have always loved the early Pro stock cars and although I've never been a Ford guy I love the look of the early Pro stock Mavericks:cool:

I was lucky enough to go to the Gator Nationals in '73 when I was a senior in high school. I still remember the pro stock final was a 9.01 to 9.02. Gapp and Roush won but I can't remember who they beat. It sure made the long trip back to Texas more enjoyable, riding with all those Chevy and Mopar guys!

I loved the old Pro Stock Cars and cl***, through the 80s. I can't stand today's pro stock cars, basically Nascar in a straight line, the NHRA ruined one of the best cl***es in all of racing.

Note the SS/B cl*** call-out on the C-pillar, but "PRO" written on the window. The early days of P/S had a lot of experimentation!

I always thought that Mavericks and Comets made great-looking race cars, regardless of the cl***.

Some cars didn't last very long as cubic dollars flowed in...
