  7. Been looking at a lot of exhaust systems on these buckets and many (to me) are just too visually loud and over powering against the rest of the car. JW

The typical way to go is the Sprint style
    sprint.jpg
    or Classic style
    classic.jpg
header that gets the path outside the frame rails and outer body line. Early Ts had hand built headers that also did this. All mimicking dirt track exhaust or drag exhaust. A few had manifolds and the piping tucked under. Cleaner, but tight clearances, had to be fitted and I'd guess heat in the bucket and other components is a concern. This could be done with 'block hugger' headers too.
    1927 chassis shown.

I've seen a few with lakester style headers home built or bought. They can be baffled or routed under.

There have been a few that went outside the box, but none that have set a new trend, so I don't think I'm alone in thinking most are not visually pleasing.
Do you have examples of what tickles your fancy, aside from your own? Always open to new ideas!

Diggin' it, don't know how close to the body I'd want them, seems it might toast paint. Note the pipe coloring.
That has another thing that I'd want to incorporate into my build IF I did a ground up.
That super deep dish wheel. Couple that with a quick disconnect and you have lots of room for ingress and exit. Looks cool too.

The pipes will get hot, but that discoloration indicates the engine was too lean.

02 sensor says it lives in the 12 to 14 range mostly mid 12.
plugs show carbon on body and light tan ceramic.
the blue is from driving it hard.
there is 4" between pipe and rattle can paint.

I had my pipes coated inside and outside and they never turned blue, but they were not shiny. The full car is in the OT section. 1006121611d[18113].jpg 1006121612[18112].jpg

  15. I think i like lakester style the most out the ones shown but the one Paul posted look really good because they are tucked in and the color doesn't make them stand out like dogs balls. The Fad T era set the standard for oversize ugly headers and give a confused look when used on other build styles. On my T RPU i used Rams Horns a hid the pipes underneath and they don't get very hot. There's right and wrong applications for all types used on these cars but that's just the owners personal taste in the end and we can still like or dislike any of them. JW

@Sky Six , I caught your T over there and like it a lot, plus I've been researching the old Specialty Cars Ts and you've posted a few altereds they had a hand in. Good stuff!
You are even in AZ, although waaay down there IIRC.

Yes, I am down where the debris meets the sea.
Tom at Specialty cars made excellent "T" chassis and Anglia's also.
He was a great help and sponsor for Bob Nylander's restoration of Pure Heaven II and also the Bantam Hunter. Tom also did a chassis for Bob's Fiat Topolino that was a piece of art.

While mixture & hard running does blue pipes , retarded timing will fry headers in a heartbeat .

    1. Y-blocks

EX pipes,style/design :D:cool:,I always though helped over all look.;) for my Ford "Y" Thunderbird power
But as the years passed,{ in 1959 #1 set up was not pretty,,just temp*,,and my #2 set of headers I did too look as good as I could do.for custom headers, started cracking an after a few fixs, made a new sets, about every 6 to 10 years,{ I could not chrome them, just not a big enough piggy bank ever!!,, so BBQ black or silver from time to time.
I liked custom designs* vs mass built. It gets harder too do your own. as we get older.
Then a buddy who also had a 23T-SBC power ,I helped him build his,who used a standard chome header set, cracked one of his tubes very close too head flange. He ask if I could weld it for him ,with out killing the chrome< Nope! LOL,so he got a all new set for his SBC 350. < Gave me the SBC cracked chrome set. Chome was still nice, except for the crack.
I held them near my Ford"Y" block heads, found out SBC Headers, other then SBC being close together on center pipes= were same as Ford;;;So I cut SBC flange off ,open center pipes a little, and welded SBC Headers to Ford pair of flanges. They been holding up well for a few years now.. 001 (4).JPG
