Hot Rods Help identify these headlights

I have a friend with some neat looking old headlights on his Model A and neither of us have ever seen any like these before. They have a gl*** level in the top presumably to help align them.

 

Those are aftermarket Trippe lights, used as driving lights on lots of high end cars.
