when I got my first Corvette, a 1960 with the "powerful" 283, I had to run right out and get a "hi-rise" intake and a Holley double pumper down at Gratiot auto supply...oops, the hood don't close. So I spaced up the hood latch mounts on the back about 2 inches...the original cowl induction. Look closely, best picture I got.

that was quite a few yr's--water pump doing the" hurst" job of motor mount-wasn't the best...

62 was the last year of that nonsense.

periodic maintenance: torque the water pump bolts, so the engine don't fall out

  19. I was a day late on my periodic maintenance but i got lucky and got away with just tightening the pump/mount bolts. No leaks so far and i HAVE been banging gears:D

if you spot the drips before it gets too bad, you can save it :)

I had "the drips" once in my twenties:eek:, got them again in my (almost) 70's, albeit for different reasons.

Time to fiddle with the distributor. The cam says I have to use a plastic or melonized gear, so I bought a melonized gear.

The advance was still not right after the last go round with it in December...too much mechanical advance. I backed off the initial some to keep it from pinging. Since I had to get the shaft loose to change the gear, I decided to look into the advance again. I had installed a rather thin plastic bushing, and had purchased a brass Moroso bushing as part of a weight kit, but never installed the bushing. Reading more on the vette forum about how to deal with this, I decided to make as big a bushing as I could to fit in there, and now it feels like it's gonna be a lot closer to what I want. I may have to change springs again, but the travel should be right. Since I don't have a distributor machine, I'll check it with the timing light once I get it running again, and go from there.

Bushing dimensions are 0.183 ID, 0.295 OD, 0.205 long. Everyone needs a lathe.

Now...on to the carb....I need to figure out the new PCV setup as well as rebuild it....then I can put it all together.

I’ve got the largest bushing I can fit in my distributor on the race Vette, and the lightest springs I can get away without the timing floating when you rev it, with 36deg all in it means I’m running mid 20degs initial.

Engine out, ideal time to get in the engine bay and figure out where all the air leaks are to improve on cooling.
Especially since you're gonna add more heat underhood.

heh...I know where they are, but I don't think it'll make enough of a difference to bother. I kinda need 50% more radiator, which is hard to fit in there, the way the car is built.
