I missed it my friend! I look forward to seeing you there. I hope the PU is with me, tomorrow will tell if I can diagnose the speedo issue,

Keep an eye on the weather sports fans. If I go, I’m sticking to the non grassy area.

Supposed to be 79 degrees the weather guessers said this morning. Where is the "non grassy area" inside the cruise area? I think you have to park on the drag strip parking to be on paved ground.
I'll be there before the gates open waiting in line to get a decent parking space.

I’ll be on the dragstrip with my OT pickup. Haven’t been able to make a pass in years and I’ve got an itch that needs scratched.

I wasn't as concerned about the speedo as the tach needle. It ended up on the wrong side of the peg somehow while calibrating and I didn't want to hurt the cluster. A tech told me to use a magnet and pull it back around. He said he hears that one all the time. It worked, it'll be there. Probably parked 2 miles away in a sea of cars but it'll be there.
    Just for special occasions!

I might change from the roadster to my Falcon, it could be a chilly ride home.

Did some carb tuning on the Quick Fuel 650 carb on my '39 Chev yesterday. Trying to get a leaner smelling exhaust at idle. Swapped in larger idle air bleed jets and then reset the idle air screws. Amazingly going 6 sizes larger bleeds took my idle vacuum from 11 inches to 16 inches! I was shocked since the Howards roller cam is pretty healthy and never expected it could develop 16" of vacuum!
So looks like I'll drive my '39 Chev coupe tomorrow.

16" of vacuum on a high lift cam is excellent.

I think I heard that the gates open at 4:00 but it sounds like half of Portland will be there by 3:00 (power parkers). They may have to open the gates early if the cars are backed out onto I-5

On FB today a friend of mine said they are opening the gates at 2:00 for tomorrow's event. I have nothing more to substantiate that with other than a facebook post.

Nice work, what do the transfer slots look like in the baseplate of the carb? If you got them with just a little square showing, and the idle mixture screws are somewhere between 1-2 turns out, you are right on the money.

Gates always scheduled for 3:00 PM, but often on opening night they open aas early as 2:30 when the lines outside get too long. I plan on being there at 2:00 in case they open early.
Drag racers can't go in until 4:00 PM. And the shuttles for the public wont run until 4:00 PM.

When I got this carb the idle/air screws were set at 1/4 turn out! I tried adjusting them more, but they wanted to be nearly closed to run right, and still gassy. After installing the larger air bleeds I'm about 1 turn out at each corner, and had to set my idle adjustment up so I've got about .010" of the transfer ports exposed, which is right about what I like to see.
I really like the QF carbs over Holley carbs since they've got so many features that Holley carbs charge much more for. I figured after Holley bought QF the carbs would either get more expensive, or lose features, but so far they're great. I got this one as a brand new warranty replacement carb for $200, and free shipping. I called to ask why so cheap and was told it is a brand new carb that was returned, but after tear down they found nothing wrong, so it went on sale with a full warranty. Normally a $700 carb.

  22. I saw the 2pm open time as well on facebook. I took half the day off to be out there early just to be some of the traffic out there from the westside. Looks like Ill be there when gates open now.

Weather forecasts have been all over the place this week. But this morning they all seem to agree on temps around 75-77 degrees today. Perfect weather for even the guys who worry about any higher temps, or clouds.
